hey everyone
im looking for someone who has a knowledge base on the new Pearl ECX series....
im going to buy a 6 piece set and i dont know to much about them, apart from them being all maple and stuff.... i've seen them and they look great i was just looking for some opinions or advice on weather or not they were a good investment...
By the way the reason im buying this set is because i was looking into buying 2 more toms for my EXR's but i later found out they discountinued the model so ya.... ya ECX's hahaha
thx alot

I'd say that the tama superstars are a better buy, and you save a bit of money. Mind you, it's birch. If you really want maple, then i suggest mapex pro m over the export customs.
They're a bit more exspensive, but It's worth it.

The Mapex M series are the same price as the Pearls, and have so many features that make them better its not even funny.
Ie -
real wood, not basswood
Lacquer finish
free tom
etc

The Pearl's he's talking about are maple and are lacquered. Personally, I don't like the Pro M's. I think the toms sound average and the kick sounds weak. Nothing beats a Pearl bass drum! If I were you, I'd save up a little more and buy a used Masters. They are very nice drums.

If your gona go with a reference.. At least look into a used masterworks. I just got an 8 piece Artisan for 3grand.. The reference 4 piece shell pack is more than that.

If you are buying the two brand new.. the reference is a bit cheaper.. But you cannot get it custom. If your gona buy a reference down the road... I would just save a lil more and get the masterworks.. You can make it the same specs.. But of course it is better cause it would be custom tailored to you. A 4 piece Ref. shell pack is about 2500. I got a 5 piece masterworks Quote at 3200. And the masterworks is All that much better.
