Best sticks for rimshot

I know alot of the sound develops from the snare, but what are the best sticks you've found for rimshots?

Im looking for a pair that give a real powerful sound, do they need to be heavy, or thick?

The power of rimshots is mostly determined by how the drum is tuned. I have cracking rimshot ala Gene Krupa 1950's and I use some of the smallest sticks available (bopworks.)

Edit: Ok I need to start reading more carefully. Anyway, I found bopworks sticks are the best for rimshots. Because they are quite thin, it allows the sound to travel through the wood much faster and cleaner. 5As and the other various sticks I have can't even compare.

Any stick. It really is all about the tuning and the technique.

I find that a thicker stick usually gives a better feel. Sometimes you feel a little bit of a shock when you do a rimshot at a bad angle or it hits weird, but it almost never happens with bigger sticks.

Also it is worth remembering that a rimshot is meant to be big and loud.

A big stick gives the necessary power and feel for a nice rimshot, but like MFB said, its all in technique - you should be able to do a rimshot nicely with any stick.

Obviously a big stick will give you louder rimshots and louder...everything!
But it's all in technique... if you want a big rimshot you put more of the stick on the drum, if you want a ping-y rimshot you hit it toward the edge of the rim where you're hitting.

someone told me (dunno if its true) tht smaller sticks give more of a slaping sound and bigger sticks or more of a crack and more powerful.

smaller sticks seem to have a little shock sometimes to them. didn't notice it much with bigger sticks.
well sometimes but that depends on how you hit the drum.
