First off, I am so glad the forums are back, this website is my life. Thanks a lot Bernhard.

I'm not a professional drummer, but drums are my life. I am 17, going to be a senior in high school. I play in a rock band, a jazz trio, my highschool jazz band, and anything else I can find. I also give drum lessons to a few kids for some easy money. I am doing the Berklee 5-week Summer program, starting next week, and I plan on going to Berklee College of Music. I would say that I am just as good as many of the drummers on this website (better than some, worse than others). What exactly does it take to get on this website? I want to be a professional drummer, and I want to have my own page on drummerworld, so I was just wondering exactly what it takes to do that.

Thanks,
Ben

Make a name for yourself. Play in some bands that get recogniton, do studio work. Most of these guys on drummerworld have been playing for years in famous bands or have been renown session musicinans that are willing to record any time any place. I know I may never make it on here, but I am more than happy to have this site as a resouce to learn from and talk to other individuals that share our passion.

I would say, If you are half as good as the 2500 (!!) drummers I have on the wishlist to be included in Drummerworld, then you are a great drummer.

man, being on drummerworld is one of many rewards that comes with being great, making a name for yourself and working hard for a long time...you need to be prodigious to make it here without those three things. its one of the things i hope for, but i know i wont acheive without decades of work.

I think if some Drummer has an explosive unique style to illustrate to the Drumming community then this would be the place to discover it. Every Drummer I see here at DW are each very unique players who had the heart and confidence to develope and nurture their own style and announce it to the world.

If its ment to be, it will happen.

Well I have not heard your playing but you are only 17 so there is alot of time to develope your style and gain experience. Just practice, practice, practice. Once you make a name for yourself and become famous who knows?

Keep on drumming and good luck.

worry about tempo and groove and the sweet feeling you get when you drum. It takes time but stick with it and things will happen

Why are you rushing Ben, you still have a lot of time to gain a reputation you just need to work your ass out and listen to a lot of music... And never compare yourself with others in terms of being better or worse (this is not a character of a true musician)...

You must have been very confident to post your thread which good but be careful do not let this self confidence go too far to the point that it will blind you and prevent you from progressing towards better drumming concepts...

Trust me try to learn as much as you can and use any opportunity to learn, but never think that they transform people in music schools, a 5 weeks course will not let you play better than Vinnie (who never acheived berkley studying program), or Brian Blade, Steve Gadd, Dennis Chambers, Buddy Rich, Alan Dawson, Roy Haynes, who are on the website... To earn a name in the presence of those monsters is not that easy...
Anyways keep on your effort maybe some day drummerworld will contact you (or your manager) to post your name on the site... :)

The key is to be down to earth, if you are always over estimating what you know you will never learn something new, in order to learn you have to deny what you know, empty yourself and get ready to recieve some new refreshing stuff...

Peace

"I would say that I am just as good as many of the drummers on this website (better than some, worse than others)."

I would say "I doubt it"... You are probally better than some, and better than myself by a long shot. But I am not going to just accept that without hearing you play first.

After reading several posts on here I got this idea; surely there is a member on here (in addition to Bernhhard) that is capable of creating a website. So, why not create a site featuring "us". You know, like an amature drummerworld? That'd be koo. Just a thought. -Peace

Not only that, but if you go around saying things like this, you usually get a bad reputation of being cocky, thus making it harder on yourself to be accepted in the drumming community. As good as you may be, you gotta go with a more humble approach rather than "I'm better than him."

Get up every day to live & breath with great passion the love and desire for your instrument, and sacrifice all that is nesesary within reason to have the ability to give something back to the Drum World....

Professionalism, Respect and Recognition are far more important than raw talent....these accomplishments can take you a long way in this tough competitive business world, so don't forget about patience, durability and stanima in order to just survive a lifetime of music, and I havn't even spoke about the level of your playing ability or talent level .

I'm certain as you view the video's & read the resumes and bio's of all the world reknown drummers involved on this "Great" website, it should be obvious to you as to what it takes

Good Luck...Peace!!! and have a "Great" day...& work hard..

In addition to the "get back to reality" bit, It is 100% impossible to get a video of yourself playing posted on a website if all you do is tell that website how great you are, and not even show/send them a video to display if you were that good.

It's good to compare yourself to those who are obviously better than you. That way you'll work harder to achieve that level. Don't rush it man, you're only 17. We don't need another Class A Drummer here. Congrats on the acceptance to berkely to you and Freddie Freeloader.

If you suddenly do become the greatest drummer ever to grace the face of the planet, and make a load of amazing records and a stack of cash, and Bernhard thinks you're good enought to make the site, make sure you have
a) a bunch of pictures Bernhard can use for a page, and
b) a decently recorded video.

Otherwise your nowhere, my brother.

BenWell Ben i dont think you'll ever be on this site as a featured drummer . I don't mean to bust your bubble but it takes years of time for the world to reconize your talent . I'm a great drummer too and may have a chance with my band to make the big bucks but still doubt i'll ever be on here .Your young though so stay on that path keep your dreams high and follow through . If you give it all you got and you say your as good as you say you are then im sure your dreams will one day be a reality .

keep playing and I'm sure your success will be far beyond anything you expected. Just have to believe in what you do, regardless of what others may think or say, just stay your course! There's much more to being a successful drummer than being in magazines or on a popular website.

Just steer clear of counterfeit people, and you'll be just fine!

In case the original poster ever shows up here again, here is another bit of advice:

Play original music. With a few exceptions, the drummers listed on the main page are involved in playing originals, not covers. They use their talent to render new music, thereby advancing music as a creative endeavor. Sure, there are lots of lousy musicians playing original stuff and plenty of excellent ones doing covers, but if you look at the drummers listed on the front, they are all pretty much doing original stuff.

I was wondering, does Bernhard have any order which he uses to add people to the site, or does he just have a straight first come, first serve, waiting list. I mean, is the waiting list in order of ability (I want a better word) rather than appearance (I want another good word to replace that one). Otherwise some of the best drummers would have to wait for the other 2000 to be added.

Bernhard
10-25-2006, 08:31 AM
Everyday i receive between 15 - 25 wishes for adding drummers. If i find time, i can complete the wishlist with more 2000 drummers.

So I just created a Watchlist. There are drummers - with gallerypages - i find interesting, have potential for the main gallery or have some other merits in our community.

http://www.drummerworld.com/watchlist.html

To get into the Main Drummerworldgallery (between Tony Williams, Steve Gadd, Elvin Jones) is getting more and more difficult. There will be added perhabs 5 drummers a year.

i dont doubt that you are better then some of the drummers, some iv heard just didnt sound like "holy cow that guy is amazing", and some of the videos posted on the forums did.
,but drums isnt for fame and money, as some drummers make it. drums is for fun and enjoyment, notto make money.
although it would be nice to make some money along the way, my reason for playing drums isnt to get rich or to get on drummerworld.

my advice is to keep going and if u want to be on drumrworld then play your best and if your lucky it will happen. there are pleanty of drummers that arent on this site that are amazing and very well better then the ones that are.

My man, you got it. I totally agree!! I mean, why does for example Derrick pope make vids of him teaching and playing, why does he produce a DVD...I`m sure he didn`t do this when he joined to get onto Drummerworld. He does it because it`s about ENJOY a thing you love and about this incredible pleasing feeling you get when doing this.

...okay, I also wanna respect the other side: Every drummer is interessted to become a watchlist drummer or a Drummerworld drummer, me too. I`ve also asked already in a thread if this would be a cool aim...but HOWEVER, when the time comes, the time comes! I think becoming a "Watchlist Drummer" would be a huge response for my work, of course, but it would be much much greater if I don`t get such a response for work and hard times, more for PATIENCE. What I mean is: You can ask Bernhard for this response, but would it be still so special? You would more rather force him...

let it come...

Ok, I prefer the inventors of something about those who refine it....but anyway, the best should be up on drummerworld. But please don't argue with more or less known Metall-Drummers - these are changing to quick. Speed is no point for being included at Drummerworld - only the invention....hmm, I seem to repeat myself....

I think part of the problem for young drummers is the idea that getting a name listed in the watch list or the main page is the goal. If that is your focus you will never make it. Concentrate on letting your soul flow through the tips of your drumsticks and keep a cool attitude in everything you do work and practice hard, keep a professional mindset weather you are in the studio or jamming in your garage and good things will happen to you....maybe even a listing on this prestigious site.
