Are they as good as the super kick 2's? Also, are they great for jazz and rock? I want that good thump. Thanks.

Oh yeah, I heard the Remo Pinstripe bass heads are good as well. Which is better? Also, I have a 20" kick.

If you want more thump I'd go with the SKII. The SKI is going to have more of an open, rounder tone. The SKII should have a bit more attack and bottom end. As for comparing it to pinstripes, no comparison.

Pinstripes aren't that great?

I don't personally like them. They just sound flat and dead to me. A Superkick is superior IMO in construction and in tone. Also with the Pinstripe you would probably still need some muffling, with the Superkick, you won't.

So even though the super kick i is only one ply, it's still has a better thump? My reso has like a 3-inch port. I would really like to hear more opinions on the REMO Pinstripe. Thanks!

Yes it will due to the type of muffling that is used on the head itself.

I don't have any experiences with 20" kicks, but I have used SKI & SKII heads on different 24" kicks with much success. I would stay away from Pinstripes though. If you want to go with a Remo head, try the PS3. They are a very good bass drum head also.

Yeah, all brand new. I've been meaning to ask, what kind of heads do you have on your Gretsch kit ?

I've got an Evans EQ4 batter and stock Gretsch muffled Reso...like a Powerstroke 3 or EQ3. I have a Gretsch New Classic coming in on Wednesday and it comes stock with the same setup as far as I know.

I've got the SK1 on my 22 yamaha and it gives plenty of punch and tone. To me the SK2 is too dead. I think you'll be very happy with that SK1 and for $10 you got a steal!!!!

I like both the SK1 and SK2. I have a SK2 on a 22in tama bass drum and it sounds pretty good. I also have a SK1 on a 20in bass and a 28in bass. The SK1 has a more open sound but I still use it for Rock with no problem. I have never liked the pinstripes... they just always sounded dead to my ears.
