How do vic firth 7as compare to the thin zildjian ones and the short pro marks?. They all seem to be pretty different. Im far from any shops just now and need to buy of ebay.
also are the nylon tips now any better on vic firth..they used to come off all the time.

Vic Firth 7As are a bit thicker than the Pro Mark 7As. I have a pair of both right now. The tips on the Vic Firths have chipped so they are only my back up pair. The Pro Marks are cool, but I really don't like the oval tips on them. I'm still searching for my perfect 7A that is a little thinner than the Pro Mark with a round tip.
I've never been a fan of nylon tips, so I can't help ya there.

I used to use VF 7A's but I found them to be too short for me and I had to force the upstroke. I have 2 brand new pairs of VF a used pair of Regal Tip and I think a pair of Promark. If your interested let me know.

Use Vaters. My favorite sticks by far.

At the moment I use Trueline Billy Ward signature which is a 7A. They are a bit longer, 16 3/8" so that solves the reach problem that some don't like about 7A. Also they're the PowerGrip model with the hump at the back end of the stick so they're easier to hang on to.

i made my own hump out of several layers of electrical tape, i actually do a customised 4 finger grip like a bike handle.
7a tips seem to shred a lot i donno why but its good for a jazz sound when they shred.

I haven't been playing the pairs I have now long enough to know how long they last, but they seem like they should be pretty durable of course I don't play really loud, heavy music.
