best condensor mic?

I looking to purchase a set of overhead condensor mics.just curious on what's the best out there.I would be using them for both recording & live applications.i've always been a Shure guy but just wondering what other people might think.Reply's are much appreciated.

Thank you for the input I was checking out your kit I like how you have the toms to the left of the bass drum.different but cool.those seem like very nice mic's I was looking for something a little smaller and possibly cheaper I appreciate your reply through.

Why would you be concerned with the size of an overhead mic?

SM 81 is a standard. Oktavia Mk012's are considered excellent for the money, especially in a rock setting. Peluso CEM6's get excellent billing as all-around SCD's, they can be had in matched pairs for about the same as SM81's. I use AT4050's, but they certainly won't save you any money. Speaking of not saving money, if your room is good/great, you can't beat hyper-accurate omnis like Josephson's or Avensen's. If you want to go cheap, you can get the MSH mics from Naiant Studios, which aside from highish self-noise, sound great on the clips I've heard. $50/pr.

The reason i'm worried about size is because there are going to be used for mostly live mixes but sometimes there going to used for studio applications.i'm not gonna put a $500 a pair condensers just for someone too trip over a mic stand and say OOPS.i'm only looking to spend about $150 a pair.thanks for the reply.

I use the Shure SM81 live and for home recording, and they're great. I'm not sure who has the best deal on them, but it seems like they should be in the $200-250 range.

Might as well get the MSH's then. You'll be $100 under budget. You could try CAD M177's, they have been on sale for $70, and should work. They're LDC's so you might need to weigh down the bases of your stands for security at live shows.
