So I am curious how many people have a Drum Shop in their town.

Not a music store that sells everything plus drums, but a Drum Shop.

If so please name the town, I am trying to see how many drum shops exist
Thanks

Used to have one; the owners pretty much did themselves in.

I have two in my area, Drum City Guitarland and Rupp's Drums. Both have been here for decades and I can say they are both quite reputable. That's just in Denver. If you go further, there's yet another in Ft. Collins (Colorado Drums & Percussion, I think).

With the advent of the superstores, that's what you'll find most places. We did have a drum shop in Milwaukee called Faust Drum Center.....not sure if it's still around though. It was on the near south side of the city, and I live far to the west, so I haven't been down there in a very long time.

My favorite local music shop is mainly drum oriented. The owner is a drummer and it definitely shows in his shop. Some shops hide the drums in the back. At least three quarters of this guy's shop are drum kits, and spare parts. So to me, it is a drum shop that has a few guitars and a couple pianos. heheh

If you're making a list, there's Skins n' Tins Drum Shop in Champaign/Urbana, Illinois. Not a massive shop, but a pretty nice selection of cymbals and various percussion.

But I don't live there, I'm in Bloomington/Normal. However I'm driving up there soon to play some hi-hats.

Houston Percussion Center in Houston, TX is my local drum shop. Not only is it a drum shop, but they also build fabulous custom kits. I happen to own 2 of them.

Still there, and Bill Faust is still a character! I'm on his good side, but I did see him throw a kid and his mom out of the store!

In Los Angeles County - a rather large area - there are only 3 shops: Professional Drum Shop (been there almost 50 years,) Chad Sexton's Drum City (less than 2 years but getting very cool,) and Robin's Drumworks (which is extremely small but cool.) I think that's a few too few, considering the size of L.A. and surrounding cities, and the number of musicians in town.

But... just to the south (in Orange County) is West Coast Drum Center, so it's more like 4 dedicated shops that are sorta close-by.

Bermuda - just out of interest, what possible reason would a store owner have to kick someone out?

I bought a 20" Byzance jazz ride through ebay from them, for $110.00.
Smooth transaction, a super price for a great cymbal.

Well, unless there's something criminal or disruptive going on, there's never really a good reason to throw a customer out. In this case, the kid didn't have .39 (on an $8.39 guitar string purchase) and apparently neither did the mom. Bill's kind of a 'drum nazi' and runs the shop exactly the way he sees fit - period. Very few people get any slack from him. I started a thread at Drumsmith.com called Faust Music (do a search) and it turned out to be very revealing about Bill and his store. Anyone who gets past the first few minutes with him will see the twinkle in his eye. Most people don't last that long and write him off as having a real attitude. Which he does...

I was quite surprised when he angrily tossed them out of the store, then turned to me and was pleasant and funny. Fascinating guy, if you can get past those first critical minutes in determining what kind of relationship you'll have with him for all eternity.

There's a Five Star drum shop about 20-30 minutes from my house and it's a really great shop. The people there are very cool and knowledgeable and aren't just your typical salespeople. They buy and sell used drums and repair them. I bought my Sonor Force kit there and it was actually used but it's hard to believe. I learn something every time I go there so it's great. Oh, and Dereck Roddy works there so I can get a chance to talk drums with him every so often. He's helped me out quite a bit with cymbal choices and bass drum heads. The shop is called Resurrection Drums and there's one store in Hallendale and another in Miami, Florida.

I been to Pro drum shop and Chad Sexton's and thought that they were great! What about Todd Trent's shop or is that a musical instrument shop?

Pro drum is the hot set up in LA. There used to be a Drum City on Santa Monica Blvd along with the original GC, back in the day. 60s, 70s. The shop always looked like a work in progress. So... I guess it's been reopened?

"I keep forgetting" (great groove) about Robins in Redondo Beach. Gonna have to duck out of work one of these days and check it out.

The Drum Doctors are in the LA area also.

St. Louis, MO is lucky enough to have two Drum only stores in town. Drum Headquarters (2 Locations) and Fred Pierce's Drum Shop. I never buy drum gear at the big box stores.

Hmm, there's a big shop in my area, Birmingham England, called PMT that call themselves the House of Drums, but they do sell everything else aswell, i suppose that counts.

Drum Doctors isn't really a drum shop, they're rentals & cartage only as far as I know (although I don't use them. If something neds to be rented for me - which is extremely rare - it comes from Center Staging.)

Chad's Drum City has nothing to do with the Pop Harte's Drum City, and the name Drum City has been used by other shops in the past. Joe Voda's Drum City in Omaha is where Linda (Chad's Mom) worked for a million years, so I think the name of Chad's shop is a nod to Joe, as much as being descriptive of what the shop is.

Linda manages Chad's, and knows drums and drumming, and is a real sweetheart.

Ontario Music is a full-line store, from clarinets to clavinets to castanets to bass cabinets!

But his drum department is pretty complete, and the back room is filled with a ton of parts. He also has the largest selection of Ludwig heads for those who are interested. I've done business with Todd for years, even though he's an hour from my house, and Robin's, West L.A. Music, and several GC's and Sam Ashes are considerably closer. Come to think of it, I've made several major purchases there, and have relied on him to send parts overnight when I'm traveling (this is separate from my Ludwig deal, which is fairly new compared to how long I've known Todd.)

Plus, Todd is great. If he's in and has time, it's always a treat to talk with him.
