Probably asked before however this takes up new meaning for me now...

Basically i have been let down time and time again by my band mates - wavering enthusiasm, no loyalty shown, will ditch me socially when it suits them and the list goes on...

Therefore i have left and after 5/6 years together that was not an easy desision to make.

However - I will be buying an electric kit, new guitar and keyboard to make my own music. So for now i am purely a drummer. I am looking forward to expand my abilty and knowlege and enjoying drumming.

So for your guys who are not in bands, why do you drum? what do you get from it that you dont get from being in a band?

Cheers

before i joined a band i got asked that, i didn't know. I couldn't really put it into words. I tried though, talking about the physical aspect of it and the joy of getting something right and the way it sounds cool when you do.

its just something inside that is released, a part of you that is not expressed in other ways.

it could be much the same as a singer songriter feels wwhen they play, just them and their guitar being as one and getting that visceral feeling inside themselves as the melody and song develop, we sit down with the drums and express ourselves and develop our rhythms and beats but unlike a guitarist, the only people who like watching us on our own (for the most part) are other drummers....

I drum because I like it. When I play with my band I feel great because I'm creating music and I love music. When I'm playing alone, I play because I enjoy the feeling that it gives me, its indescibible

before i joined bands the reason why i drummed was to get good enough to be in bands. now that i am in bands the reason why i drum outside of band time is to be good enough to stay in bands and keep fresh.

I am at the point of wanting to be good enough to play in a band. I think I am getting there.

I am jamming with an old friend for the first time Thursday. I can't wait. Perhaps we can get something going.

I played guitar for years and sucked at it even though it was my passion. Practiced forever, but I just didn't have natural talent.

I don't have the talent with the drums either. But, keep a decent groove is more fun than playing crazy solo's anyway.

Except for in the beginning, I have pretty much always played alone. I see it as a never-ending self-improvement process. The discipline that it takes to get better at something can be applied elsewhere. Then there's the satisfaction that comes with noticeably getting better at your art. I think drumming consumes people. You tap your hands and feet constantly and always have some music or beat in your head. It's a wonderful obsession to have.

i drum because no one else around my area drum. i am really the only one. I lve knowing that i can do stuff that people cant. They couldnt even think about doing....haha.....yea there are drummers in school and all......but they dont drum on set......although sometimes i do wish i had someone here to talk to about rudiments and that kind of stuff......thus not having anyone to talk to about it, i came here....to drummerworld.....and now i have that priviledge......i drum because i love to do it!

Drumming is a part of music and music is a part of show business and I love show business.
