So some one on my craigslist is selling a Pearl H800W Hi hat stand (fairly new) for $20. I don't have much knowledge about hardware so tell me if its worth the drive.
I was either going to get that or this Ludwig hi hat stand (in the pic) for the same price from some other guy.
I do like the vintage style of that Ludwig stand but the pearl may be better.

Worry about the stability of the stand. Stay away from single braced. Always go with double.

I own that same Pearl hi hat stand and I think it is just peachy. Mine cost around $60 used, and the rod has a slight bend in it. So, if that one is in good condition I would scoop it up. I love the adjustable tension for the pedal.

Some single braced stands are very sturdy. I used Yamaha 700 series single braced for years with no problems.

Cool. I have only used one single braced stand, and it fell over alot... lol.

What kind of stand was it? Single braced or double braced shouldn't keep it from falling over unless you're hanging stuff of it, and then you need the added weight. But even my Yamaha's, I think at one time I had a tom, a remote hi-hat, a splash, a crash, and a china (no kidding) on it and it was sturdy. Of course distributing the weight evenly is important.

The Pearl is a real sturdy stand, for $20, I'd go for it. As far as single vs. double braced, I play a yamaha single braced stand right now that's just as sturdy and stable as the DW 5000 it replaced, at 2/3 the weight. The Ludwig looks like an old Hercules stand, not a bad stand, but the Pearl would be a better performer.

So the guy sold the Ludwig stand so I'm going for the Pearl (if the guy still has it). Are Pearl stands reliable? I don't throw around my stuff or leave it in bad conditioned places. I don't need my stands, especially a hi hat stand, breaking down on me during a show. Thanks!

Honestly, I don't remember. I think it was along the lines of cheap CB hardware. I think.

*spit* Well there's your problem!
Yeah the good single braced stuff, Yamaha, Tama, Gibraltar, even my flat base Gibraltar is really good.
