Woo! I haven't had a chance to start researching for a DiY octoban project, so thanks for the link! Some really nice looking ones on that page.

Sounds a little challenging, but i am talking about getting hold of the right length tubes!
I am going to try wood tube toms first i think as a practice.

Some of those homemade ones on the site look really good. I'd say these are some of the easier drums to make yourself.

Looks like a good ol' summer project just about to get started here for many of us

Where would it be best to get the lugs, hardware, etc?

Doesn't look to be too hard to put together.

Try somewhere like this, they have clearances once in a while on lugs and stuff. Also try your local music store and ask about lugs and hardware.

I love the sound of octobans and I'd love to do them in the summer just to experiment and see what they are like!

Odviously I'd start with wood, then make them with acyrlic depending on how well it went!

I'd start with acrylic or even PVC. No point in spending lots of money on wooden shells if it's an experiment with no guarantees of success.

I would of thought that PCB or Acrylic would be a more expensive option!

I'm not sure what would be more expensive, acrylic or wood. PVC is cheap for sure.

I might be building two 8" PVC octobans soon, one 8x18 and one 8x22. Does that sound good to anyone? Or has anyone had bad experience with PVC?

For Octobans pretty much any material will be just fine... they're supposed to have a funky sound to them so PVC or whatever will work. Something like PVC will be cheaper than wood for sure. Full length tubes of maple aren't exactly "cheap" and if you want to talk real expensive make them from metal.
