I literally just finished watching the Drum Preformance with Roger Taylor Taylor Hawkins and Chad SMith and A Drum and Precussion type group but i cant remembeer their name......

What was the Point of having the other 3 drummers there they didnt add to it at all. I thought the group was brilliant but they didnt need the others.....

Any Thoughts???

It's cool. I'm watching DMB right now. Didn't see Spinal Tap or the Drum thing at the beginning.

EDIT: My sister lied to me!! I just caught the last bit of The Police, so either way I still missed 'em.. haha

I really enjoyed watching these concerts. It was so cool to see so many bands perform live. I got to watch it on a huge TV with surround sound. I ate fresh sweet cherries from a local farmer and drank good red wine and was glad to be able to watch so many shows all over the world from the comfort of my isolated little corner of the world.

I was super impressed, but not at all suprised by Alicia Keys' performance. She is an absolutely stunning performer and singer. I grudgingly enjoyed The Police. They sounded really good, even though I wanted to hate Stewart so much for what he said about jazz music. At least he looked like the biggest dork on stage. I was super suprised by Macy Gray's performance in Rio. I hadn't ever heard or seen her live. She had a kick ass band with a ton of Gospel influence. Her drummer was my favorite. Dave Matthews put on a good live show and I kept laughing at how Carter was chewing gum and blowing bubbles while creating his trademark intricate grooves. He didn't miss a beat. Jimmy Chamberlin knocked my socks off with the Smashing Pumpkins. He's another one of my early favorite drummers who still brings it as hard as ever. He played his butt off and sounded awesome, even though he did look as if he'd aged like a fine cheese.

Who else??? Oh, I caught a little of Madonna's show, and couldn't believe that I was actually entertained by it. I can honestly say that I was impressed. She had a couple of really great gypsy musicians, a fiddle player and flamenco guitar player. They were by far the highlight of her performance for me, other than the part where Madonna grinds herself on the boombox at the front of the stage- How old are her kids??

Yeah, anyway John Mayer rocked, the Beastie Boys rocked, and since it was being shown on 3 different channels, I could just flip it when performers I didn't care about came on (Kelly Clarckson, I'm looking in your direction)... Good show though, they should do it ever year, or at least every five.

Musicwise:

I was really disappointed in The Police. After missing the tour, I was Dying to catch this clip and have it be hot. But, IMHO, they Killed it with John Mayer and Kanye West. No offense to those guys, but, I just plain wanted to see The Police, not the Din of Stuff that occurred.

Issuewise:

The issue needs attention, and I think it was great that so many people pitched in to achieve that. Very cool.

I missed The Spinal Tap performance. Did Bissonette spontaneously explode?

Almost. Actually it was the previous drummer Stumpy's replacement Peter James Bond. And, uh, it was tragic, really. He exploded on stage. Just like that. He just went up. He just was like a flash of green light... And that was it. Nothing was left. There was a little green globule on his drum seat. Like a stain, really. You know, several... dozens of people spontaneously combust each year. It's just not really widely reported.

Those are words from a man who owns the video...

I haven't seen that movie for years, but it all came flooding back just now. Thanks!
