The new Pacific 805 series are on the website. All birch shells, virgin bass, 1 up - 2 down configs, 24,13, 16, 18 w/ 14 snare or 20, 12, 14, 16 w/ 13 snare. They've also added a bunch of new colors to the X7 line and a new snare.

What's the verdict?

Very Disappointing.

The 805 kits are going to appeal to only a select few people solely because of the colors and power coated hardware. With the exception of the black on black and white on white, which I still wouldn't want anyway, they're absolutely gross looking. It's great that they're offering Birch drums again, and offering virgin bass drums on an additional line, and finally they're offering 20" bass drums, but they screwed it up by the finish offerings.

The X7 finishes are nice, and atleast what they should have done is offered all the things that the 805 has features and size wise, with the X7 finishes or gone with a new series entirely that has a new line of conservative, yet mass visually appealing finishes, that offers virgin bass drums that go from 20-24" on kits in both birch AND maple. THAT would have been more of the "custom inspired kit" idea that they were hyping up, and not going with this ridiculous trend of disgusting powder coating on high gloss metallic wrap colors.

that 805 kit with 20 inch bass drum looks just like ddrum dominion ash pocket kit, but is really ugly. anyway, cool sizes. virgin bass is also nice imho.

Add a 22" bass, and 8" and 10" toms, and we have a winner. I'll take the black on black. Meanwhile I will probably hunt down some FS series 8's and 10's and refinish them in my preferred color. Powdercoating is fairly easy these days, and well worth the money.

Idk i just really dont like the looks of the colored hardware. and that turns me away from looking at anything else.

The only person I can see buying that hideous blue/orange set is a die-hard Chicago Bears fan. I guess the black looks ok, but I wouldn't buy it. I prefer a 22" bass anyway.

The buzz on some other forums is that the blue and orange is a loser right out of the gate, while the all white and all black are the most popular. They should have taken more color cues from the 805 snares, like white on black or black on red (for all of those Peart fans out there). Perhaps they will respond at some point. My idea for 805 drumkits was to have ALL of the drum sizes available (18"-24" bass drums; 8"-18" toms) in the kinds of finishes from the snare line (blackout, whiteout, red on black, black on red, white on black, white on red, etc...). THAT would be custom inspired. What they have right now is nice, but still too limited like so many other Pacific offerings. Some of us play bigger kits than a traditional 7-pc. If DW is laboring under the impression that more options in the Pacific lines will take away from sales of DW drums, they are sadly mistaken. It's Pearl, Tama, Taye and Sonor they are supposed to be competing with here.

Along with adding more sizes they need to ditch the color schemes. Not everyone loves powder coated hardware, especially in colors like that.

the black on black was decent, but the rest just kinda made me laugh, can any say... FISHER PRICE

Good call Ironcobra! But remember, Bozzio black was considered "avant-garde" when it first hit the street. Now Neil Peart is running with the black on red setup.

Its Pacific...what do you think they'll be?
Don't get your hopes up. A Pinto is a Pinto.

This made me LOL.

I think if Pacific had just offered an option to powder-coat other, existing lines, they would have saved themselves some money, and probably would have a lot more buyers.

I'm pissed that rather than opting for satin chrome finishes, they decided on that awful orange powdercoat.

Most of the new colors combinations look ugly to me. Different strokes I guess. I think the whole 805 line is geared more towards the younger punk crowd. I've seen a few of the X7 kits, they look and sound decent for the price. I still don't think Pacific is the Pinto of the drum world.

Oh, how I do hope somebody from PDP reads this stuff.

I had a good idea today. Take the orange hardware off of the blue shells. Take the black hardware off of the blackout shells and switch the two with each other. Voila! A blue kit with black hardware, and a black kit with orange hardware (not too terrible).

This stuff is too easy. I should run a drum company.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

I don´t like them!! I think the 805 line sets look like toys for kids.

Look close at the X7 on the site. It appears that the "professional" STM tom mounts cover 4 lugs of the drum. Looks terrible.

Not too mention "hybrid hardwood" shells which in turn means "select cheap hardwood that isn't even hardwood"

That's not anything new is it? All of the STM mounts I've seen both on DW and PDP kits have attached at 4 lugs.
