I drink alot of Energy drinks. My doctor told me that it is not good for AT ALL!......
......Tell me what you think, my fellow drummers of the world. What do you all drink, or not?.........H2O, Monster, Amp?....what the heck it is tell me your input....Im all past the drugs part, i quit that to become more healthy, but......is it still all the same?.....Am I still slowly killing myself? and threatening my drumming future?

The performing contract that I am doing now has a sports medicine program for musicians and dancers. They told us that Gatorade is great for rehydrating and replacing the salt lost by sweating. Of course water will work as well. I mix half Gatorade and half water.
As for the other energy drinks, take your doctor's advice or call a nutritionist and see what they say. They are health professionals - we are drummers. Take their opinion over mine.

DONT drink energy drinks, I went to see a sport nutritionist( Im an alpine skier) and she told me that energy drinks shuould only be concumed under extreme measure, so foor exemple, I could take half of a red bull before a race and THATS IT. So, she said it was ''ok'' for sports sometimes, but for drumming or just for your on pleasure, your destroying your insides.

It probably depends on your personal state of health. If you have high blood pressure, it's probably not a good idea.

It has a ton of sugar in it (not good for you) and also has Bull Testosterone which is what gives you that major rush, causing you to crash afterwards which is very hard on your body. I don't drink them anymore.

well the way i experienced it was like this.
Band camp- before one rehersal i drank a monster, it worked for two hours unlucky for me it was a four hour rehersal. I crashed hard. so the next day i drank a good amount of water. That night I felt normally tired but 24hours after i drank the water I was completely energized and had no crash afterwords. So the rest of band camp i made sure i drank water constantly and I had energy with no crash afterwords.

They do nothing to help you. Keep yourself hydrated with water (energy drinks will dehydrate you) and get plenty of rest. Go for walks, etc when you need to get the blood pumping. "Energy Drinks" are just hype and do more harm than good

although sometimes the might be ok, or even needed, drinking any more then 2 or 3 a year is just stupid. the only time i ever had one was a red bull right before a championship soccer game, DAMN it worked, but i had pains in my chest. red bull is the only one i would consider drinking, because it has 80 mg of caffine, but the ones like rockstar and cocaine(idiots) have like 300mg.....thats death waiting to happen

I will drink a Sobe (No Fear) every now and then. They just took Cocaine off the markets here I think. I really liked that one.

jaysus.....i tell ya....the drugs dont work man....good its come off the markets finally...hahaha....i presume its some sort of drink??
red bull an stuff has Taurine...a horrible stimulant....it rocks the heart all over the place...its used often in "legal highs" to get the sense of being high.....increased heart beat and basically physical destroying....taurine makes you sweat even if your not moving,it makes your vision blur, your head spin....and yes gives you energy....
happy hunting...

Yes, it was a delicious fruity delicate concoction that rocked the U.S. for about 6 months. And, it even gave your throat a little burn after each sip.

i don't think that's neccesary. i'm super energized during shows and i never drinked anything to get me to that level of energy..is all natural.

I just started a regimen of drinking vitamin water by Glacieau when I go to work (warehouse job, so lots of heavy lifting and working out my muscles) and when I play drums for prolonged periods. Vitamin water is VERY good for you -- tons of vitamins, obviously -- and several of the varieties of vitamin water have plenty of the same ingredients found in energy drinks, minus the sugar.
Unnatural, carbonated energy drinks are really bad for you.

I think I've only had energy drinks (like Red Bull) a couple of times. I really didn't like the taste. It kind of reminded me of that soda, Jolt. I used to work over night many years ago and tried different things to keep me up at night, which eventually led to me becoming a zombie and inspired my nick (Sleepy Bright Eyez). I hardly drink caffeine anymore. I hardly drink soda anymore. I do like sweet tea though (caffeine free).
At work I drink a lot of Gatorade. Mmmm... keeps me going in the humid swamp heat. I recently found some 100% fruit juice at the store that I really like (mixed fruit), but I forget the brand. It's great for in the morning or during my practice. Taking a daily multi-vitamin, eating right, and sleeping tight help too.
To get pumped for a gig I usually just have a couple beers. Not too many, until after the show. And whiskey is so not my friend. hahahah

Heres a warning.
Back a few years ago, I was doing alot of stuff at a recording studio in my town.
There was a store across the road from there where you could get cheap cans of Red Bull type substance. I would buy cans and cans of the stuff, thining it would give me the energy to play.
BIG MISTAKE
It did funny things.
It would give me a short amount of energy, then after that you would crash down.
It would also make me feel ill, and gave me a form of dehydration called "Tunnel Vision"
Being me, I thought I could carry on with it and kept drinking it, for a long time.
I eventually came to the climax of about four cans in a night, and started to suffer nightmares and scary things like that, including cramps, that were holding back my playing.
I havent had a Red Bull or similar products for over a year and a half now.
I still find it bad when Im walking round the town and I see "Big Hard Men" with their "energy" drinks, even when their just walking round shopping, not even doing anything that requires energy....
The bottom line in my opinion is that they are fine in small doses - But whatever you do - be careful.

**it says on the cans: do not consume more than 1 in 24 hours**

Nice warning label drop!
I'm sure when and if these energy drink companies grow as large as lets say, uhhhhhh ... Budweiser, they can use thier monetary and political influence to remove that part of the warning from the label.
Can you imagine if Budweiser or any alchohol distributor had to put the same type of information on each bottle or can? (Warning, do not consume more than 4 in a 24 hours.) YA RIGHT! I think at one period in time they had to do it. Don't quote me, but I think I remember hearing that somewhere.
Its the same with energy drinks. If they become stronger.. I'm sure that particular part of the warning will be removed.

No, these were cheap rip offs - they had no warning.....
And in England, there arent even warnings on real Red Bull.....
i personally think after a sporting event or something like that, gatorade is the best choice as it hydrates you with a little more stuff that water doesnt have...
when it come to a show, toss me a bottle of water to rehydrate me, it does the trick

After an intense training of sporting event, the best solution is apparently to drink a choclate milk and eat a penut butter & jelly sandwich...just something i learnt from kayaking and talking to a neutritionist

as an avid bodybuilder/gym rat I'll tell you why...
Chocolate milk has a high level of BCAA (Branched Chain Amino Acids) that are essential for muscle recovery.
Peanut butter has good amounts of protein and healthy fats the body needs back.
Jelly and the bread are fast-digesting carbs that replace your glycogen (sugar) stores in your muscle cells and spike your insulin levels to maximize the transport of nutrients into your cells.
that's all for today class :)

Wow, sounds good - I hate peanut butter, can you get away with just the Jam?
(jam = english "jelly" interestingly "jelly" = english "Jello" lol, its all mixed up...)
