Hi Everyone..this is my first post on this forum.

I've been drumming off and on for a few years now. After a long hiatus with no set to play on, I finally decided to break down and buy a brand new set, one of the silver sparkle Ludwig Accent ZepSets. It comes with a single bass pedal, cymbal stands and drum stands. I need to get a throne and probably one more crash cymbal stand.

I already have a PST5 Paiste starter pak, plus a Paiste 18" crash. Does anyone have experience with these sets? Any tips on how to tune them?

The only other set that I had was a Sunlite starter set and a set of Headliner cymbals. Hopefully this will be much better than that set!

Obviously, I'm a John Bonham fan, and a fan of simple drum set-ups.

Thanks

Joe

Welcome to Drummerworld. I've heard that kit at G.C. and they sound pretty good. Quite a few head combinations will work with that kit. The Jeff Ocheltree DVD "Trust Your Ears" is all about John Bonham drum tuning. I suggest you check it out. I drive a Luddy 26, 15, 16, 18 - 6 ply kit. Powerstroke 3 clear batter on kick and toms, ebony Ambassador with a HOLZ kick reso. and Ambassador clear reso. on the toms. That combo would work on your kit as well, just depends on what sound your looking for. You could also use Controlled Sound, Emperor, Fiberskyn 3 and Pinstripe all to good effect on your set. Big drums rock.

I just bought this set 2 weeks ago. I love it.

The 16 and 18 toms tune very well at multiple ranges. The bass drum was pretty tough for me to figure out. I had never played with such a massive bass drum. Anyway, after a couple of hours, I got it dialed in with the stock heads and no internal muffling.

The 13 is a tough bugger. It definitely prefers lower tuning. However, it sounds pretty good there.

The snare is half way decent. I tuned it pretty low, so it sounded nice and FAT. I do have a Bonham Ludwig Supraphonic snare, so I am using that on the kit now.

I am very please with the purchase. It is so loud and boomy. Nothing like attempting to play Bonham on a Bonham style kit!!! Enjoy it!

Concerning the Accent Series... unless you are going to buy good heads, buy some Remo Muffl's. They allow you to get really good sound from the toms and they don't diminish the sound much.

The 26" kick is a Ludwig accent custom made of mahogany with clear lacquer. I'm still using the factory clear Ludwig batter head. Its of the same style and quality of the DW clear heads with the small coated outer strip. The front is a single ply white coated Ludwig head as well with the 60's style logo. Over the many decades of drumming I have owned and played them all. I have said this many times and I say it again. The new Ludwig Accent custom zep kit is of great quality and the sound is killer period. I'm a tree hugger at heart and truly understand that the drums are made from rain forest mahogany but maple and birch are trees as well that we are losing just as fast. The mahogany wood is a rich and expressive wood and it truly is the best sounding wood for very large drums. I have never muffled any of my kick drums since the mid 90's. The drum heads today are of such great quality the need for the old pillow is finally
gone.

Well,

It isn't too often that this happens, but a tree hugger and me (non tree hugger) agree on an issue! Drum sound!!! LOL

I hope you love your set as much as I love mine!!!

Take care

I bought this kit a few weeks ago and have been loving it. I changed the heads over to coated emperors, had the Jeff Ocheltree dvd in the background as a reference and tuned them all up in about 20 minutes. I left the factory heads on the kick drum and put some felt strips in there (like Bonham) but I don't think it really needs it. The other drums do not need any muffling at all. Just spend some time tuning them, or learning to tune properly if you don't know how. Don't muffle them just because they ring a bit... they're big drums... they're gonna ring. Kind of like putting gaff tape on the snare 'cause it ratttles a bit? IT'S SOME WIRE ON THE BOTTOM OF A DRUM.. OF COURSE IT'S GONNA RATTLE!!
I've been playing Yamaha fusion set-ups for the last 15 years and have been a Zeppelin/Bonham fan my whole life. Nothing compares to playing rock/Zeppelin/Bonham style stuff on these drums. The sound is mighty!
I have included an mp3 of my kit that I recorded the day after I got it. My studio is about 8 feet by 8 feet so, tiny... not an ideal drum room to say the least. This was recorded with no overheads, thought I had blown them up but just dodgy power supply. Bit of reverb, bit of EQ, bit of compression. I need a bigger room to capture the ambient sound of the bass drum, it's a bit too close, but I just don't have the room.
Anyway, enjoy your drums.

Whoa! good sound, great playing! The bass drum is a bit lacking, but the snare and toms sound great!

I have the PST5 pak also with the hats,16' crash,20' ride.Bought the Pst5 18' to complete the setup.I'm a cheapskate & love these cymbals!Beautiful ring & sustain. Also have 18' meinal china which has been real disappointment.Only been playing it for a year & it's cracked!Stick with the paiste, there the best choice.Just ask stewert copeland!
