Did Buddy ever personally take on any students?

I wonder if any of you old timers (or anyone else) ever heard of Buddy Rich teaching students personally. If so who were they... And how did they survive? Just curious because I met someone who says he was his student for years... Hmmmm... Should be evident in his playing I'm sure, but I haven't seen him play yet. Just curious.

seriously though, you should get him to play you some rudimental patterns. If he comes out with BR's versions of the rudiments, hes maybe telling the truth.

He is lying. Buddy never took on any student. Buddy couldn't read music either.

I studied with Morello who was friends with Buddy. Actually, from that era, Joe was THE guy to study with for hands.

I can't answer your question. But at least I can say that I did actually have a lesson with Buddy once. He was playing in Copenhagen (Denmark) where I lived, and he agreed to have a chat with me. I had some questions/doubts about stick control which he helped me with. He was so insanely fast compared to me that we had to laugh about it! He was very kind (yes!) and very helpful, and we had a nice time together .. I even got to meet his older sisters!

I can't answer your question. But at least I can say that I did actually have a lesson with Buddy once. He was playing in Copenhagen (Denmark) where I lived, and he agreed to have a chat with me. I had some questions/doubts about stick control which he helped me with. He was so insanely fast compared to me that we had to laugh about it! I saw Buddy perform many times from the late 40's till he died. While I never knew the man, I don't think he had the temperment to take on students.

I get a lesson every time I hear him play, while in high school I used to do drum solo's at the talent shows and I always listen to buddy's records before going on, inspired me.

Buddy didn't have students, but he did have protoges. However, they obviously did not work out in the end.

i remember buddy rich was on the tonight show a lot. johnny carson used to call him "mr. warmth".

Buddy gave Johnny Carson one of his kits but I don't really know if he ever taught him how to play. I know Johnny was a very shy person away from his show but he was never shy when playing drums. Back to the first question, I'm sure Buddy gave lessons. Not many people know for sure but I would think there are people out there that studied with him.
