Hello all.. I was wondering why do punk drummes put their cymbals parallel to the ground? Has it got something to do with the sound or wat? thanx!

I think it has to do with the majority of thier setups. Most punk drummers have very tight kits, meaning the drums and cymbals are within an very close proximity (closer than most) because of the speed that they play. Thier equipment needs to be close. So, when everything is within a close proximity, having the cymbals tilted down will not give the drummer a good attack angle toward them. Of course I could be wrong.
Do you understand? Or did that make no sense at all..lol?

Because Travis does it, of course.

I think John Bonham started it.

I think I have to agree with That Guy & Smoothjazz. I preferably like my cymbals that way as well...maybe with a very little tilt. It's just comfortable that way for me.

Nah, it was the swing era drummers -- their cymbal stands didn't have tilters. :)

But i doubt that many punk drummers look back to the swing era of drummers

Has nothing to do with the sound, just appearance.

When they shatter, the arterial spray created by the impact of the shrapnel, stays in a more uniform pattern.
