yes and no, what are your current batters? if they are a single ply, i dont see why not, but if they are a 2ply, it might sound very flat and dull, especially if they are coated.

explain your scenario in more detail

right now my batter heads are 2-ply.. im saying if i need resonant heads if they get dented or they get torn (knock on wood) can i use a 1-ply clear batter head as a resonant head or is there a resonant head.. what im trying to ask is.. if i go into a music store instead of seeing evans g2-batter.. if i look will i see evans g-1 resonant?

ill brb and check my boxes downstairs...................alrite it says neither, you are just going to have to know what is meant for reso and what is meant for batter, my EC2's just say 2ply clear, and my G1's just say single ply clear. G1 clear would be your most common reso. i would go for that its pretty good, but if you are not sure, just ask the guys at the store they can tell you.

inevitably (sp?) thats what i was going to go with.. i still have the stock resos on my kit and im assuming they dont hold up well i mean its been over 10 months

this is becoming a private message thing, whats sp? and resos should last longer then 10 months, i had remos that lasted over 20 months before i got my G1's. its your batters that you should be replacing AT LEAST once a year

sp is spelling, not my strongest subject.. idk i just figured with a lower end kit that the resonants wouldnt be super duper JUST LIKE THE CYMBALS IT CAME WITH

buy ec2's clears on batter, g1's clears on bottom, seat the heads and get a nice tuning job done, you can make it sound quite acceptable, if you dont know what seating is im going to bed you will have to ask someone else. oh and i just bought an evans ST DRY single ply for my snare. AWESOME completely makes my snare an intermediate or better metal snare

How would you dent or tear your resonant heads unless you are playing on them or you drop them or something? Some drummers use 2 ply batters as resonants if they are looking for a more muffled sound. G1s are common resonant heads but are commonly used on the batter side as well. I usually change my resos once every 6-8 months or sooner if I can hear a deterioration in the sound of the head. But it's not important what you use as long as you achieve the sound that you are after. And I would suggest getting new resos if you've had them for over 10 months, especially since they are the stock heads.

no no man, i transport my drums alot and sometimes the resos get damaged like dented.

If a head is dented, it's done. It might work for just banging around but for a "real" drum sound you need decent heads.

Sounds like you need cases.

General rules: Bottom head: single ply clear or coated NEVER 2 ply unless you don't want to be heard.

NEVER 2 ply unless you don't want to be heard.

Hmm, not a bad option for certain drummers...

I'd strongly suggest even getting drum bags (cheaper than cases) if you're transporting your kit around alot. As far as resonant heads, I've never used G1's but I know a bunch of guys on here have. I use the Evans resonant glass (and black) heads and they work great for me. I usually change my resonant heads maybe once a year because they still sound good to me and they don't get hit. But it sounds like you should invest in cases or bags...trust me....you will be glad you did.

Even if you wrap your drums in blankets, or just something to protect the heads from getting dented, it will work temporarily.

I've used G1's and Resonant Glass. I personally notice only a slight difference. Right now I use coated J1 Etched heads, but when my new kit comes I'm not sure what I'll use.

The term "resonant" means just that. The bottom head is supposed to resonate. Pinstripe heads are designed to be used as batter heads because they are a muffled style of head.

Look, you can do whatever you want and if it sounds good, great. But 2 ply heads on the bottom will make the kit project less. Period. That's what I meant about not being heard.

ive read up quite a bit on the anotomy of the drum kit, im not very familiar with remo heads thats all.. im more of an evans guy but i told myself next set of heads i get will most likely be remo.. i know 2-ply arent the best for projection so i think next resos i get are going to be 1-ply

sorry i meant to type i use pinstripes as my resos...

Jeff Almeyda...i know how you mean of course...but if it works,it really only matters projection wise in a gig situation,,,,and theres usually mics there....

i understand how u mean...an didnt mean to sound like an impertinent wretch...haha....but i think 2 plys can work for achievin your dream sound too...
