The Pearl Free Floating snares offer a great range of versitiality. Why? Well because you can swap shells between them to give you the sound you are looking for.

The Sonor snares I have heard have all sounded great too!

Can't go wrong with a black beauty... I use a bit different metal in my drum but metal snares are starting to grow on me a bit

You should look into Dunnett steel snares (a la Carter Beauford) Very versatile with an amazing crack.

Seriously. get the black beauty if it's on your list. You won't be sorry. It's a classic and they've always sounded amazing.

You're always going to find a bad review... If you're worried find one of the older ones

If you're considering a Black Beauty I would consider a Supraphonic too. Yes, the BB is brass and the Supra is Aluminum, but it too is a very versatile snare and a bit cheaper, even amongst used ones. Whether you get a new one or a used, you can't go wrong.

Ohhh... good call on the Supra... great drum.

I guess the point is that you don't have to spend $800 to get GREAT sound

I'm always a little skeptical of reviews like this. It sounds like this could be someone inexperienced talking about the snare beds. Without knowing the reviewers qualifications I wouldn't worry too much.

Even if he did get a bad one, I'd say every manufacturer has an error once in a while. There are too many people happy with the Ludwig snares for there to be major issues, I think.

Good so I'm not the only one that thought the "bend" was the snare beds.... lol

Supraphonic, best snare drum ever made. Newer or older/vintage, they maintain that great sound.

Pearl makes good snares as well. From what I've heard, the Pearl Sensitone is one hell of a snare.

Brady might be out of his price range I believe. I think the snares are over $1200.

A cheaper version of the BB is made by Pork Pie, but I don't think the smaller pricetag is a sign of lesser quality, in this case.

Honestly... can't compare the two. PorkPie just subs out all their work. I'm willing to bet their metal snares are the same ones I can pick up from my hardware supplier in Tawain. =)

The Pearl Sensitone sounds AMAZING! i own one and i love the way it sounds when tuned up properly, cant go wrong with that.

Donc vous dite que vous êtes ''pro''? Racontez moi un peu à ce propos.

Well, you may be right.. the BB made by Pork Pie is from Taiwan, but I have heard good reviews. I don't exactly catch what you mean by that last statement though.

I build drums... the places where I get my hardware from also supplies shells.. that look exactly like what pork pie uses... so i'm guessing it's the same stuff

I use a pearl free floater. I've found it to be very versitile. I play all styles, but when I gig I usually am playing jazz/funk/latin rock. But it's been a very good snare to me. & I mean for such a small snare it has one hell of a pop! I would highly reccomend it. Also, most guys don't c this as a good reason to buy it, but say you want the sound of a diffrent shell, you just buy the shell and not the entire drum.

ive heard good things about the DW acoustic EQ snare. It's got these two little gizmos where you can open them thing up and its vented, or you can close it, or open it up halfway, etc.
