Are you a brand loyalist? A Pearl rack is cheaper in price and gives you more room to mount things. It's bigger so that might be a bad thing for you. But look into the Pearl 503 or 503 curved rack, along with the Gibralter racks. Pick out something that will work best for you not just works for you.

I use that rack with no problems at all. It's a great rack for the price.

Looks like a nice rack. Not sure how many pieces to your kit you have but keep in mind the $299 price is the starting point, depending on how many pieces you have you'll need extra mounting clamps and memory locks. That stuff can add up in a hurry.

I would highly suggest something with square tubing as apposed to the round. I had a friend that had issues after time with his clamps wearing on the tube which resulted in clamps slipping, especially on the ones holding the toms. I own a Pearl Dr80 square tube mount, probably the least expensive in the line (about $165), but it has worked like a champ ever since I have had it. If you play a lot of gigs, it will cut your set up time in half. I just color coded all of the mounts with colored electrical tape and slide the stands in and turn them to the marks. Sets up the same every time. Good luck.

$40 is no reason to sacrifice quality. $100 maybe, $40 no way.

i would go for a larger pearl or a gibraltar, they MAKE RACKS, pdp (well actually DW) is just trying to get in on the hardware market, still great racks but in my opinion, a larger pearl would be more appropriate

like they said...my friend has a gibralter rack and its a round tube..and he has had no problem with it...but is square that much better?

The round tube racks work just fine. Take a look at what I'm using my DW/PDP rack for. I was having trouble getting my 3 toms on top just right. I had previously had a bass drum mount and the virgin bass drum was new to me. I mainly use the front piece for 10", 12", 14" toms, 2 crashes on the corners, and 2 splashes in between the 3 toms. I'm also using a wing on the left side for another crash and my tambourine. I still use stands for my ride and crash on the right side. In fact, my floor tom was a hanging tom, until I added legs to it. Everything is just where I want it, everytime, thanks to the memory locks. There will be gigs that I can't use the rack , so I kept a couple stands to mount a tom and cymbals (tom brackets mounted to stands)

Was your friend using memory locks? I've had no slippage when using them on my round tube Gibraltar rack. I use them underneath the clamps for the horizontal bars, as well as on the horizontal bars where my toms and cymbals go (they lock in the multi-clamps that holds them). I want to get a few more for where the ends of my horizontal bars meet their clamps on the vertical bars. Rock solid.

Just for the record there is a difference between the PDP and the DW rack tubes. The PDP is chrome plated like the Gibraltars. The DW is stainless steel. I would still go for one of the square Pearl Icon racks as my first choice though.

I've never used a drum rack before and I have an old school kit. Its a Ludwig Amber Vistalite set and its huge. I just cant get it adjusted right. I was thinking that I should give up and try a rack mount. I am looking at the Pearl Icon DR-503 rack. I was wondering what things I should worry about as far as fitting this kit to a rack system .
Here are the specs on the kit:
2 - 26" x 14" bass drums
8 x 10 tom
8 x 12 tom
9 x 13 tom
10 x 14 tom
14" x 14" floor tom
16" x 16" floor tom
18" x 16" floor tom
6-1/2" x 14" Chrome Plated Aluminum Snare Drum with Supra-Phonic snares
all with large classic lugs.
16" Crash
18" crash
20" Crash
15" hi hats
24" ride
20" china
any help is appreciated! :)

You'd obviously need two front curved pieces but the Icon would work great.

Ah ha! It wasnt obvious to me...that answer helped a lot! So I order the DR503 with Curbed Bar option and an extra DR501 with curved bar option right?
What about extra schtuff? I have quite a few cymbals and toms, will it come with all of the mounting hardware? Or do I need to order extra equipment?
Also, here is another ignorant question, floor toms still remain floor toms and dont get mounted right? :D
Lastly, can I mount my girlfriend on it or will it hurt?

Nothing compared to the cost of the drum kit bro! :D
You think my bass drums are big? Look at this one:

Another front piece, yeah. You could connect them together directly or buy and connector piece. Massmusic.net has a good selection and good pics so check it out. That's where I bought mine. All of the boom arms are another purchase. I used the top sections of my regular stands and some newer ones made for racks. They're shorter is all.
It comes with clamps but you might need more for your stuff, it's all in how you want it. Check out my sig pics for some possible ideas. You don't have to mount your floor toms, my rack bar runs right behind them.

Hi,
Don't know if you purchased a rack yet but have you tried Ebay, I got a great deal on a Gibraltar curved rack with 2 curved side extensions. I have never had a problem with slipping. With the double bass you would be looking at two front curves and 3 legs with posts. The two side wings should take care of the rest fo your gear.
Good luck
