Im in a band with some friends, we are all middle aged guys and like the 70's and early 80's rock. But we also do some newer 90-2000 stuff as well. We usually end up putting our own style on songs. We arent incredible by any stretch but we just do it for fun because we like the music. The guitarists can handle just about anything unless you get straight up crazy hard stuff. Thats why we stick to classic rock stuff. Im looking for some new material to cover for a while because I dont have enough fun heh. Right now we do some simon & garfunkel, doors, creedence, van halen, zeplin etc. We'll try almost anything really. Im just looking for ideas for good songs to drum to that are still a classic rock feel where I could actually have some entertaining fills or solos. All the stuff now is very straight forward and has 1 bar fills at most. If anyone has some ideas for something that is fun to play thats in our random "genre" please give me some suggestions. Thanks!

Hey, Turbo6! Man, reading your post I almost thought someone was descibing me and my band. We, too, like the 70's and 80's genre. Stuff that we have been playing around with lately that may be fun:

Steve Miller- Space Cowboy (bassist loves this one), Fly Like An Eagle, etc.
Tom Petty- Breakdown (We played this one last night with a female singer- Awesome!)
Fleetwood Mac- Dreams (Again, last night with female singer- pretty cool)
Bad Company- Rock-n-Roll Fantasy, Bad Company
Toto- Hold the Line (Been trying to talk the guys into doing "our version" of Africa)

Anyway just a few ideas that we have been doing lately. I know some of these aren't orginally "big drum parts" with huge fills or anything but, like you said "put your own style" to it and have fun!

Hendrix, Aerosmith, Supertramp, The Who...just a few that come to mind.

I was in a three piece classic rock band two years ago and we had great reactions with these tunes. At the risk of repeating what you may already have in your set list i present:

Day Of The Eagle - Robin Trower
Spoon Man - Sound Garden
Are You Gonna Go My Way - Lenny Kravitz
Stranglehold- Ted Nugent
Mamma Kin - Aerosmith
Dr. Feel Good - Motley Crue
Shadow Play - Rory Gallager
Bad Attitude - Deep Purple
Larger Than Life - Kiss

Hoobastank: The Reason

Simple song to play, and the girls go gaga. Might be too simple for you guys though.

The Samples - Did you ever look so nice.

This song is really groovy! The drum part has the coolest and grooviest fills ever, probably because it includes the cowbell. If you like 80's rock, this is definatley a perfect song. Oh and check out some more of their songs too, they're all pretty cool.

Steve Miller- Space Cowboy (bassist loves this one)

Are you talking about The Joker? The first line is "Some people call me the space cowboy", and it has a pretty great bassline. Just wondering, in case I'm missing a great tune!
