I need to invest in some bags quick. It looks like I'm gonna start going out for some sessions. Mostly just trio and quartet jams but maybe the occassional small gig.

My question... Will my 14x18 bass drum with folding legs and Vintage Rail Mount fit into the standard 18 bass drum bag or will I have to go with a 20" because of the hardware? And who out there even makes an 18" bass drum bag?

Here's a pic of the rail mount. The arm (or whatever you wanna call it) comes off no problem but, of course, the rail stays on.

I would think an 18" bass drum bag would fit because most of them are designed to fit drums with the more modern tom post bracket and the rail does not seem to stick up higher than that.

It won't be a problem. Bag makers know to allow for drum hardware.

But where can I find a 14x18 bag? It seems like they're all 22" standard. Which brand can you recommend?

Just ordered some Protection Racket bags. They've gotthe 14x18 bass drum bags. And just in time too. Looks like I'm gonna start lugging my drums to some sessions.

That is a good brand. I wanted Protection Rackets for my set, but they are really hard to get in the US. I now use Hardcases from www.hardcase.com. Have fun in your sessions!

I use bags one size over, its easier to get the drums in (especially bass drum) and the baggy 'ness gives a little more protection. Also the bags aren't as prone to roll around as much, which is a plus.

10" tom in a 12" bag, 18" bass drum in a 20" bag as an example. Try it with your tom bags (if you have) to get an idea of what its like.

Would an 18" bass drum with a riser on it fit in an 18" bag or what it have to be taken off?

No, protection racket allow for stuff like that.

For example a 18x14 case is really a 20x15.5 case.

EDIT: 700TH POST!!!!!
