Hey everyone,

I just found a 6 piece Mapex Saturn Pro on craigs list for $700. I wasn't planning on getting a new drumset so soon, but this seems too good to pass up. I seem to remember someone saying that Mapex used to have hardware problems, anyone know about the hardware with the Saturn Pro? I've always heard good things about it, and I already have some nice cymbals. Also, how's the 5.5 x 13 black panther? I'm not overly picky about my drum sound, but I'd like a pro or semi-pro kit that will last me awhile and allow me to do pretty much whatever I want.

Here's his description:

I am selling my gently used Mapex Saturn Pro Drumset. I am the only owner and have had the set for over 6 years. It is in great condition and only shows normal signs of wear that you would expect. The set has a beautiful transparent black finish that allows you to see the wood grain. The shells are 7-ply maple mahogany.

It is a 6 piece set that includes the original hardware as well as 2 extra Mapex cymbal stands. I also have a set of Tuxedo soft drum cases that I am going to include (unfortunately the bass drum case does not fit the bass drum but all the other cases fit the drums great).

Here are the drum sizes:

snare: 5.5 x 13 Brass Black Panther
bass drum: 16 x 20
toms: 8 x 8, 9 x 10, 10 x 12, 12 x 14

Hardware included:

high hat stand
bass drum pedal
4 cymbal stands
mounts for toms

Thanks so much for any advice, experiences, whatever.

I emailed him and I offered 100 more for it and am going to pick it up on Saturday.

hah, I kid but don't post the link next time, you never know if that could happen. Steal the deal right under your nose.

And go for that deal. A top of the line drum set with a Black Pantehr and other goodies is something you shouldn't have to think twice on.

get that link off of there!!! now!!! your deal will be stolen, that is far too good a price to pass up. I missed out on a similar deal (9 piece saturn w/6 piece zildjian cymbals for $100), and I still am kicking myself 3 years later.

Of course, check out the kit and make sure its the real deal and all before you tell the guy yes, but snap that thing up man!

I have no earthly idea what you're even thinking about?? If that kit is not gone already, you need to go and check it out. Those drums new go for at least $2000. For a six year old set, with hardware, in great condition, that's one incredibly good deal!

I play Mapex myself, although not Saturns (I wish), and as far as I'm concerned there is no better hardware except DW. The Mapex maple drums absolutely BOOM, and you can't do justice to the finishes in pics. The Black Panther snares are becoming very popular, and they sound incredible! Let me put it to you this way -- most drummers considering a top of the line Mapex set would buy a Saturn before an Orion due to the huge cost differential. The biggest difference is that the Orions offer more choices of finish, but the Saturns sound every bit as good. And they sound fabulous!!

You seriously need to get all over that.......

WHAT?? You're still here??? GET OVER THERE!!!! LOL.

WITH HARDWARE.....AND CASES ??????????????

BLACK PANTHER ..........HUH??

They still make that finish for the current Saturn sets!! You could add on a 16" tom too!

GO, RUN ...do whatever!! DON'T LET THAT GET AWAY!!!!!!!!

Ok, ok, stop yelling at me! That was my initial read on the situation, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy or something. I kind of couldn't believe that the price was that low, so I figured there must be something wrong with 6-year-old Saturn Pro's or something. I'm calling the guy today. Thanks so much for your help!

Well, I thought I would make one final post to give this thread some closure. You guys made me nervous so I called the guy and then went right over there. He was really nice, and was selling it since he's about to move to Hawaii. The set has some minor cosmetic damage, the snare is a brass masters, not a black panther, and the whole set still has the original heads on it and wasn't all tuned up so it didn't sound great. Still, the price was great, and I figured that once I fixed it up it would sound great. After everything I read about Saturns and Saturn Pros, I just wanted to make sure that it actually existed and that there wasn't anything majorly wrong with it, so I got it and brought it home. I'm really excited; thanks for all your help!

Congratulations Drummist! Once you get those bad boys tuned, and maybe even get some good skins on them, I think you'll be amazed at how good they can sound.

Hey, didn't mean to yell.....I was being comical, but wanted to make the point that the price sounded really good. And it still does, even without the Black Panther.

Again, congrats!
