I think you may be on to something Derrick, I've noticed that i feel better drumming after a banana, it seems the potassium in them gives me control over those natural little twitches when I'm playing and I can get smoother playing out of them. I'm thinking I should pick up an endorsement from Chiquita or Dole.

BEER
of course, it makes drummers think they're playing better than they are, and it makes the audience think the drummer is playing better than he is! it all works out. where would the magnificient art of drumming be without beer. It even sound similar- drunk, drum...

Coffee is good to give you a bit of zap. Whenever I don't feel like playing drums I just have a coffee and that warms me up and gets me started.
I wouldn't call it food though.

Hey, I used those Ice Cream Drumsticks once. God, what a mess they made of my cymbals! ;)
Actually, I stick with the fruits on this one...bananas are #1, sweet apples are #2, and large ripe grapes always.

I never play without drinking orange sports drink. I always eat corn chips also. Orange sports drink and corn chips! You can't have a bad night with them in your gig bag! Great Thread!

To those who said bananas:
You ARE on to something. Bananas are full of potassium. A key ingredient in sports drinks like Gatorade. It refuels the muscles by replacing the electrolites. I usually drink a sports drink before drumming. Some of them, like Powerade, also has B vitamins as well for energy. Works for me.

When I was on tour once, I had another bandmate tell me about the magic of bananas. He was right. For the rest of the tour, I ate a banana about 30 minutes before we played, and what a difference it made!!! It's like nature's Gatorade.
Oh, and I think that the "randomest random" question would be something more like, "How many burros does it take to sand a table?" or "If glass is transparent, why don't fish have arms?"

Haha wow I guess I'm gonna have to keep some bananas next to my drum set.
VIDEO IDEA!!! Some kid sits down at his drum set, and he's really bad at playing. Then he eats his Dole (tm) banana and he rips like Travis Barker on steroids! Patent pending.
One SUPER delicious snack that I like to have is granola mixed with applesauce and cinnamon. YUM.

On a serious note, my studio space is a mini-storage warehouse in South Florida. We have 2 small wall unit A/C's each pumping about 6000 btu's but it still gets hot and humid in the space. I always have a bunch of bananas and 3-4 bottles of Gatorade on hand to avoid potassium depletion/ dehydration, especially since i have type-2 diabetes. Anyone who ever played football in high school or college swear by them too. I also recommend snacks high in complex carbohydrates. Beer doesn't do it for me, i can't play drunk.

Coffee is the best. Especially when practicing. Bananas give me heart burn, too.

Nicely exhumed!L0L!!! True, but seeing as it's here.
I absolutely HAVE to have a Pre-Gig coffee. A BIG coffee. Seeing as I don't drink booze anymore as it puts me to sleep.
Diet coke on the gig, for MORE caffeine. With water too as the coffee is a diuretic.
For food? I don't usually eat too much right before a gig as it makes me feel sluggish, but AFTER the gig is a problem as I'm usually WICKED hungry afterwards. (worst time to eat a large amount though)

Slight alteration for you banana lovers. If you spread some Nutella on it, it's like riding in the most glorious chariot that was ever to be ridden...or something. It's good.

I would eat mangos more often (they're SO. GOOD.) but they're really hard and time-consuming to cut and slice. Bananas are easier.

Orange Juice, Banana's , and a chocolate bar. That is apparently the best snack no matter what you are doing. But my prefered snack when drumming is either Fruit Punch ?Gatorade, or Water, and to eat Probably a clemintine and some jalepeno chips
