Who were the drumming stars for you? I don't know his name but the drummer from Kasabian seemed pretty good to me.

Yeah he was pretty useful. They're a pretty good band, actually.
The BBC coverage really annoyed me though, to some extent. Only one night, mind. I hate The Killers. I absolutely HATE The Killers, I cannot stand them and the BBC decided to subject us all (on Saturday night) to about three hours of their awful set. Then, I went downstairs to watch the extended coverage on BBC Three and they decided to show highlights from The Killers set. Ergh...

The festival only finished yesterday afternoon so I doubt it. I'm asking who you think played well this last weekend.

Phh did you see the drummer attempt to do a drum solo???
I do like The Killers but I think if the drummer wanted to do a drum solo, then he shouldn't just keep doing drum roles at different levels!!

the killers drummer is actually a very talented jazz based drummer who adds a bunch to their songs. One of the more skillful rock drummers out there

Please be joking!! lol
I like Kasabian drummer heres a cool vid of him talking through his cymbal set up.

AND yeah I hated the BBC shows. The presenters links were so long. You had to sit through 5 mins of dribble before they played some music! SHEESH!

I really don't agree with you there. I've seen nothing from him to separate him from the majority of his contemporaries.
I actually liked the BBC presenters, and the acoustic sets they had in the studio were, as usual, excellent.

Thanks for the links driver. Now I know Kasabian's drummer's name. I will be checking some more of their stuff too.
On the coverage side it makes me sad that John Peel is no longer around.

I thought the coverage was as good as it could have been, in terms of number of hours shown on all the different channels. It didn't start well when i flicked on to BBC 3 on Friday evening to see, ugh, Bright Eyes; without a doubt the most amateurish lame attempt at a live performance i've ever seen on TV. Just awful. It picked up though. Iggy and The Stooges were awesome, as was Zak Starkey. Amy Winehouse's drummer is great to hear too.
Seeing all that mud eased my pain slightly of not being able to get tickets. I felt sorry for the people trying to get home to the North yesterday as well. Very wet. :\

I felt the "rock" (I use that term loosely) acts were so bad this year I didnt even WANT to tune into the coverage. But I stumbled upon it on Friday night and it was awful. Iggy and the Stooges must have been amazing though.
I dont like Zak Starkey, and I have tried to like Ronnie Vannuci (as he claims he is ripping off Mitch Mitchell, but I dont see it AT ALL) but it aint gonna happen.
I was intrigued to know what the Electronica/Hip-Hop and Dance tents had in store though.
When these festivals start booking good bands, not charging an arm and a leg for 3 days (Where Benicassim and Roskilde are cheaper for better weather, 9 day festivals) and indie rock gets its integrity back, someone holla at me.

I believe it was Frank Tonto that was playing with Amy Winehouse.
All in all I thought Glastonbury was very poor this year.

I wont go on and on, but like mitch, he is an extremely loose drummer/has an extremely loose jazz based (in approach) drumming style. He has tons of stuff like that, but for a more popular example check out any of his "somebody told me" performances live on youtube
edit- this is actually from glastonbury 2 years ago if anyones curious. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgTyIqTJdYw

Well I gots to be honest, I like Glastonbury, but no offence to any drummers or musicians there, but I think Download is the place for more faster, techinque-oriented playing!
Alothough most artists who don't have DJ infront of there name are in my world, very talented to create PROPER music!

Yes, maybe in your world, but dont go saying that about people like DJ Premier or DJ Shadow; its just ignorant.
Its one thing to DJ someone else's music (Which still takes a fair amount of talent to do WELL) but these DJ's and many others PRODUCE their own music.

Sorry, but you're very, very wrong. DJing is an exceptionally difficult art form and it's only become technologically possible in the last thirty years. So what if sampling uses pre-existing material? It's not like guitar chords haven't been used before, it's not like scales are new things, either. Nothing is a new idea any more; I'd like somebody to point me in the direction of a totally original musical genre that does not rely on the pre-existence of another genre. DJing and sampling is just an extension of that, and there are so many different things you can do with modern technology. I posted a song up yesterday on the 'Your Place' section. I'd like you to tell me which band originally played the drum tracks I used?
Impossible. Nearly impossible. But even if you can tell where the track originally came from, the use of that track is something that is utterly original. I'm sorry, but you've clearly never tried to sample and never tried to DJ. I'll let you off this one time and grant you naive ignorance.

I make my own Ambient music, and believe me, it's not easy. I also have done some remixing of songs like "Get Busy" by Sean Paul. It's a lot of fun, but very difficult.
As for the Killers, I liked their first album. "Believe me Natalie", imo, is a great song. Sam's Town is nothing special. Better drumming and Synth in Hot Fuss. And I like how the singer made fun of Panic! At the Disco and Fallout Boy.

Oh, MFB, you are so kind! *chortle, chortle*
Poor kid is confused, he will figure it out one day when he tries; however, I do think he sounds like he is regurgitating someone else's ignorant opinion on DJ'ing and not thinking for himself.
Spartacus, if you are so sure that it isnt art, go to my Hip-Hop link : www.virb.com/hypercock
and tell me if you recognize any of the samples I used?

I know I am going to be hated on this forum for this.
I appriatiate that not all DJ is easy, I just hate it when certain people steal incredibly amazing songs that took a long time to right only to take it and make it their own! This does include some covers so don't even ask me about it!

First of all *write.
It's not stealing, it's using what's there. And ninety-nine percent of the time, you don't even know where the sample came from! It's not like anybody is stealing anything, it's done with copyright in mind and artists' permission has to be granted. So there is no 'stealing' going on, at least if the music is being released commercially. Take somebody like DJ Dangermouse. He mixed Jay-Z's 'Black Album' with The Beatles' 'White Album' to create the 'Grey Album'. How was it regarded? As one of the most mindblowing synesthesias in modern music. Incidentally, DJ Dangermouse is currently recording one of my college tutor's bands in LA.
As for covers, well tell that to the millions of Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Buckley and Eva Cassidy fans out there and they will simply laugh in your face, as I am right now. Even The Beatles were formed as a Buddy Holly tribute band!
There is no such thing as 'stealing' in modern music. It's use of what's there and it's about how that's all manipulated. Try and sample a song and try to use it creatively, I bet you can't. Please, for the love of God, learn something about what you're talking about or shut up.

In his defense I think he was talking more of the happy hardcore type remixes. They also make me want to puke. But its good that he got informed!!!
I once saw an act that called themsleves The Three Amigos...6 turntables and a whole lot of fun!!!!!
As for Glastonbury...I was bouncing round the country this weekend visiting people so I didnt catch too much of it.

For me Frank Tontoh and the guy out of Amp Fiddler (dont know his name) were the drumming highlights. From the "rock" side of things only Zak Starkey stood out.
The Jazz World stage definitely had the best music for musicians IMO.
