I am surprised to not find a thread about Chad. He is an awesome drummer who carries his marching chops to the drum kit. Just saw 311 today. Awesome concert. Chad easily out did his playing on the cds. He ended his drum solo with a one handed roll. I heard him bustin a lot of one footed double beats which was really cool. I got a good look at his pedal which is a very old pearl pedal. I guess he has no need to upgrade when the pedal he has works fine for him.

He was using this kit at the concert. This is the kit he used in 2003-2004. Last year he used a kit with clear acrylic toms. Oh yeah the kit was just thrown together for the picture. You can see the toms are way behind the bass drum. Looks fantastic in person.

That is actually not his new kit. He just got a new kit (which I understand is blue and black), which he told me he will be using on this tour when I talked to him 2 weeks ago. He will also be using alot of cymbals he has never used before.

Definitely one of my favorite rock drummers. 311 hit the mainstream when I was in high school - Grassroots and the blue album are absolutely killer. I'm listening to Grassroots right now, at work.

His chops and groove are superb. I think he strikes the perfect balance between over and under-playing. His grooves are funky, great pocket, and he plays for the song.

Of course, that snare sound!

Chad is fantastic, one my FAVORITES and inspirations. I own all of the 311 albums and I remember when I was getting into drumming seriously I would play along to many 311 songs and try to mimic Chad's groove. It is very hard to say the least! He has that drum corps background (as do I) but the grooves and fills he does are just great.

He is a humble and calm person too from what I've heard. When I play live in front of people, they tell me I look like Chad, all serious and into the playing hehehe.

*this tom was skipped in the description on the OCDP site, but it looks like an 8x12.

Chad is the man, very solid and funky. He never over does anything and his timing is perfection.
