In respect to spartacus1989's thread, lets see your small kits!

EDIT: Any 5-piece set or less! (haha sorry man)

As a drummer who uses a 5-peice kit, I feel very dis-liked. The other post was for people with 7-peice or up, and this is 4 or less.

Heres my small version of my big kit. For gigs. I just bought some tom holders so my big kit is going to get a little big bigger (GONG DRUM!!!) haha

That said I have huge fun with the smaller kit. 22x18 13'' and 15'' toms

Here's mine and actually it's alittle small now cymbal wise. I took off the splash and the 17" crash so I'm just using my two rides.

How about larger sets with small drums? I have a six- or seven-piece, depending on how you count it, but none of the drums are more than 18 inches. Usually big kits have big drums, but this is a bigger kit with smaller drums.

OK , I am guilty of playing a large kit most of the time ( see the link in my signature ) but I also play a 5 piece every week at church ( in the background behind the drum shield )and my pork pie kit at other small gigs . Here is a 5 piece kit I play often with my prized 28 kick.

Yeah, finally digging into my 15, 16, 18. Hardware pulled off the shells. Wrap needs to come off the 15 and 16. Then the re-finish starts. But I'm gigging a 2 piece right now.

funny. I just posted these pics in the thread for dudes with a huge bassdrum, and now i'm posting them in the small-kit-thread. and the moest ironical thing is that I saw almost all the people from the large kickthread posting pics here too. anyway, here i go:

@ LVDC: you obviously take very good care of your drums! that 1965 ludwig looks brand new...

Ludwig called it Sparkling Red Pearl, commonly called "Red Sparkle."

To be honest, I don't know how the wraps available today would match up with the original on my Kit, but I think you should be able to get real close if you look around....

Here is my six-piece solid-shell ironwood kit reduced to four pieces, and cymbals from five to two. In this configuration, I use the 18 bass drum, 10 up and 12 down.

Do I have a small kit that can be expanded or a big kit that can be reduced? After a while, the distinction is meaningless. What I really have is a collection of drums and cymbals that can be set up as needed to suit the gig.

yeah, everyone should note that my kit does not always look like this. Actually, I change the setup constantly, and I never really settle into one setup. I also have 12, 13, and 16(floor) toms to match that mapex bass drum, and another kit, and old Jet 4-piece. as far as cymbals, I have a 20" B8 ride (really old, just like the hats. Anyone know when B8s were introduced?) a 18 Zildjian K crash ride and and 18" Sabain Vault crash, and finally an 8" zildjian ZHT splash.

but right now I want as little as possible, for discipline as well as aesthetics.

Glad to see that. I just posted a thread about drummers who use 3 pieces or less. You should post your kit there. What styles do you play when you use this 2 piece setup?

I think after a while I'd have to atleast have a ride cymbal, but I find a set like that very liberating. I went down to a snare/bass/floor hi-hat/ride/crash (well 2nd ride) setup and I honestly think it may be my setup from now on.

Well, regarding what to play when using a 2-piece, I think it's great to try and play everything or anything, because it forces me to be creative (this concept is not my idea, read Greg Saunier's MD Aug. 2007 interview)

Again, my kit will not stay this way for long, as I will add one cymbal, and then another, and then a floor tom, and then one more cymbal, and then another tom, and I'm back up to a standard 4-piece. Then after a while I get that minimalist itch and take it all off the kit. Also I love how it looks, like, I want to play on stage with a two-piece.

Cool, then you should have no problem finding suitable wrap.
From what I hear Jammin Sam's would probably be the place to go for something close to Ludwig's Sparkling Red Pearl...................

Good luck!
