hey guys, i was planning on buying a sonor 3005, untill i found out they are virtually impossible to find in stock.

so when searching for a new set, i came across the 3007 sonor, and the yamaha. two good names, but i was wondering if the sonor was better.

any input would be appreciated.
thanks guys.

pics of both kits. the sonor 3007 that caught my eye was the studio 1 set in autumn fade.

To me, they're basically exactly the same. Asian Maple, well made. Both quality kits. For me, it's all about the price, and there's nothing else in it. If one is cheaper, go for that one; all other differences are irrelevant.

Force 3007 is now using Canadian Rock Maple on the inside and outside with very little Asian maple as filler woods. More close to a high end rock maple sound than an all Asian maple shell like the 3005. This is why the Force 3007 has a total edge over the rest in it's category. It just can't be beat.

i'd rather take yamaha. Because:

1. Tom holders i like, they dont breaks fastly, and also YESS system
2. Good name
3. Tour Custom is new drum type of yamaha
4. Yamaha - Quality ;)

So i never tried sonor drums, but i'd rather take yamaha, i trust this name, i got yamaha keyboard and it works about 10 yrs for me... Also i have Yamaha Hipgig, I had lot of gigs and concerts per these years, so they helped me a lot...

I CHOOSE YAMAHA

Fair enough. But still, I really don't think there's much to choose from between these kits. Thanks for pointing out my error.

Hi

Just several days ago I asked my teacher what about buying a kit made of Asian maple, like Yamaha Tour Custom or Mapex Pro M (yes, the Pro M 2007 models are made of Chinese maple). I am thinking about Tour Custom since that bron burst finish is what I like. So he told me that firstly, Tour Custom must be great sounding & quality drums because this is Yamaha (pretty much self-explanatory), and secondly, only a real audiofile can discern between Canadian maple and Asian maple.

So all these 'budget maple' kits are good. Some of them are better, some worse but all of them for approximately $US 1,500 can provide a much better sound than that cheap basswood Tama Crapstar, IMO.

Of those two, I'd go for the Yamaha. Superior hardware if you ask me.

And yeah, it's true. In fact, I doubt even a serious audiophile could tell the difference. It's hard enough even trying to tell between birch and maple and I've got a reasonable set of ears and I'm not even sure I can tell, let alone between two different variants of the SAME wood.

i definitely agree here, the difference between the wood there will have less effect on the sound than the heads will, it really comes down to craftsmanship and the build of the drum itself. they are both great, the only thing that would sway me to Yamaha is the good experience i've had with them and their hardware (built in their bike factory for the record)

other than the tom mount and floor legs, the yamaha doesn't come with any hardware (if i'm not mistaken).

Also, the force comes with hardware so you will be getting more for your money. That could be a factor in the price difference.

I haven't played the 3007 drums yet, but I have played the Tour Customs, and I LOVE them. I'd definitely recommend the Tour Customs any day of the year. High quality sound fer a low price.

this is very true, and if i wanted to replace my hardware (if i were to buy the sonor) with yamaha. that is how i see it.... and if the wood sounds the same i think i might go with the sonor, cause it looks sweet. and less money

Ive had no experiences of the Sonors breaking either...
2. Good name
Likewise for Sonor
3. Tour Custom is new drum type of yamaha
3007 is the new drum type for Sonor.
4. Yamaha - Quality ;)
Sonor is also very well known for its quality.

In my experience with both kits, Id have to say that its going to come down to what your ears tell you, therefore youll need to go try them out.

If it were me, it'd be price and the flip of a coin. There really is that little between them.

I flipped a coin for you, Sonor won!
Now go buy your drums.

You'll be very happy with the Sonor. Go and make that purchase now whilst you're sure!
