So I'm saving for an 18" crash to add to the lower end of my cymbals. Right now I have a 16" B8 (yes I know B8 sucks) Thin Crash and a 16" AA Studio Crash. I want to make sure I have a lower pitch than these two and I'm pretty sure an 18" is the sound I'm looking for.

Looking at my local shop's stock and playing everything (indiscrimate to brand) the sound I like best was acheived by a Sabian 18" AAXplosion Crash. I liked everything about its sound.

I've also heard the Sabian vault crashes are really nice, and if I save up enough I can stretch my budget to one of those. I want to find a cymbal I can use years from now.

BTW I'm a Sabian man currently in case you couldn't tell... but I'm open to whatever sounds good.

Oh, and I play some hard rock and funk, but not a lot of jazz and not any death metal or anything.

If you want lower-pitched cymbals, maybe should you look at turkish-made stuff? Like Meinl Byzances or Istanbul/Bosphorus?

It might cost a little more than an AAX crash but it's definately worth it.

I think you should go for even bigger cymbals for your style. (19" or 20")

Personally i have a 19" AAXplosion crash. I think this would be a good cymbal for you too. Or maybe a HHX.

I bought myself a HHX 18" Stage Crash the other day, love it! It's great. I recommend it to you now! May cost a bit more than the AAX, but heck, it's worth it. Also the HH Crashes, Rock or Medium Crash 18". ;)

i have a 19" aaxplosion and an 18" hhx studio

the 19 can be very overbearing, especially with 16" crashes. but it is a great cymbal.

the 18 is a great cymbal as well, more versatile though

hey man.. maybe you can check out my thread.. i just bought an 18'' aax stage crash (beautiful) it sounds exactly what i would like it to sound like and it goes very well with my 16'' aaxplosion.. i would advise the aax stage or aaxplosion.. its one of the the best decisions i ever made..

Thanks, I just looked at your thread... I have a 16" stage, so i think i want a different sound for my next cymbal. I'm leaning towards either the 18 aaxplosion or the 18 aax dark crash because of its lower tone.

If you want a lower sound, and you like a specific series, don't change the series to get a lower sound! Get a larger cymbal. Once you have different brands and series together ,it can be hard to buy new cymbals and make them mix well cus of their pitches.

Its not a rule but i found it to be true.

AAXplosion is a good series IMO.
