Hi drummers, I am new to this forum and I think the best way to introduce me is by showing what I am doing on the drums. I just bought a cheap videocam and filmed a little solo.

Here it is:
Part one

Part two

I hope you like it!

Thanks for your kind words! I really appreciate that! Tapping feet and things like that is what I want to achieve with my drumming! :)

Wow, that was incredible. These videos will definately be an inspiration in my playing. Thank you so much.

What kind of cymbals are you using? I assume the crash on the right is an HHXtreme? It sounds like it.

Thanks so much!

The drumset I play is a Sonor SQ2 with Vintage beech shells. The snare is an SQ2 birch snaredrum.

fourstringdrums, you are right, it is an HHXtreme in 17". Other cymbals are (all Sabian):

hihats: 13" HHX Evolution

left crash: HHX Legacy 17"

ride: Artisan Ride Light in 22"

splash: HHX Legacy in 10"

right hihat: 80s HH Regular Hats (not mine)

Very cool, Max.

Smooth movements...very relaxed.

I particularly enjoyed your tom work in the later part of the solo. Rhythmic and melodic.

Were you using a single or double bass pedal? It seemed to me that you use a fast single. Whatever, good foot work.

I noticed that you also use the "Bobble-Head Metromome" to keep your time. I've been a Bobble Head for years...Never lets me down! ;-)

Viele Grüße aus Hessen!!

Unfotunatly my internet is very slow at the moment so I have to wait for a long time till the video is fully loaded buuut from what I´ve heard already you are an excellent drummer. Your groove sounds very exact...and just so lively! Nice fill-ins too.

Also your kit and cymbal choice is brilliant! Nice sound, even for such a camera! =)

Alles Gute weiterhin,

Karl

I really enjoyed both videos, especially the second. How much were the drums if you don't mind me asking? Lovely cymbal setup as well.

Not bad.

At 1:25-1:26 your stacatto stroke on the snare was a real groove killer.

The rimshotting was constant and overdone.

I liked the half time shuffle most.

I love rimshots! I am a Funk/Rock-style drummer so I am used to playing with a fat backbeat although I really like the swing feel. Concerning the staccato stroke I agree with you. But that little groove collection was completely improvised and there are several parts that are everything else but perfect, musically and technically.

I use a double pedal, but as far as I can remember only in the endpart (doublebass shuffle thing).

The kit (20x18, 10x8, 14x14, 14x5 snare) was about 2500 Euros.

"Bobble head metronome", thats great. Its completely unconcious, can't control it. But it's funky, Zoro does it too :)

Hey Drummer Karl, for me, the overall sound is OK, but given the fact that I have the recording equipment to create a better quality sound-performance it's a little embarrasing. The ride, right hihat and HHX crash are way too loud, also the snaredrum. The cameramic boosts the mid-freqencies, so it does not sound very balanced. But I am working on it ;)
Vielen Dank für Dein Lob und Grüße aus Bremen!

Damn that's a great sounding kit. Are they coated ambassadors on the heads?
I listened to it all while doing some work. Great stuff.

I couldnt pick a single fault that was brilliant!

Im a metal drummer, but seeing this type of thing really inspires me to explore other styles and genres of drumming. Keep it up that was great :)

Thats a great compliment! I consider myself a rockdrummer, when I was 17 I played a lot of metalstuff (Slayer etc.). But all the shuffle kind of playing helped me focussing on the groove, the ONE. Swing feel makes the hardest groove feel better ;)

I thought the playing was good, but the snare imo sounded horrible...... no offence mate.

No problem, you are right. I am experimenting with my drumsound all the time and some results are...hm...questionable ;)

Listen to my new video, the sound is different (so is the snare), higher pitched and a little drier.

But keep in mind it is just the cameramic, I am working on bringing sound and picture together.

@Latin Groover: The aux snaredrum is a 12x5 Sonor Designer, maple light shell.

@Ozzy Biz: In this video the heads on the toms are both coated Emperors. Normally I use a coated Emperor just on the floortom, the 10" tom is equipped with a coated Ambassador. I like the smooth attack of the Emperors on the floortom. Further it is a little more controllable than with an Ambassador.
