Fiberskyn heads all around

They finally came in today. I could have used them on a gig last night, but oh well. Wonderful sounding heads I recommend these to anyone wanting a nonplastic sound. This makes your drums (mine are maple) sound even more expensive with an exotic flavor. Here's the pics..

Oh, a fellow trad grip player! Fyberskins are great heads, although I prefear Remo Renaissance Ambassadors!

I was playing with these heads some times ago... very nice touch ! Love them ! But I am now happy with my Evans G1 coated...

I'm interested in the Renaissance heads too. I've only seen them on concert basses, tympani, and an occasional snare. Another discovery today is that these Fiberskyns work great for brushes. No more wires caught on gritty coating=longer brush life. Also, it's not a scratchy sound, but more of a swish which will work great for my jazz combo. My kit now has a retro jazzy/oldies sound which is where I wanted it to begin with. I'm sure these would work wonders on deeper toms. They really aren't that supressing like you might think they are. They just take the plastic sound out of the drum. I would recommend keeping another snare nearby though with a more conventional head on it when you need that extra pop (ex: big band, funk, etc.). I certainly recommend the Fiberskyn Powerstroke head over the EMAD now, as it sounds the same but MUCH warmer and no weird overtones. Put one on either side like I did and you have a controlled but boomy bass depending on how you tune it. Also you don't have to work so hard with the pedal which should prolong the life of the head, pedal, and well your foot...
Anyway, wanting a nicer sound out of your kit think of Fiberskyn heads the next time you go shopping.

But one thing is for sure - they look really great as a bass drum reso heads! just beautiful!

The sound is "warm"

They take a while to break in before you get the fullness , but once they do it sounds great!

When I bought my Black panther Premium maple from a good friend of mine, there was a Fyberskin Ambassador, but I changed it to a Coated Ambassador, somehow I didn't like it, but it sounded really cool with brushes! Although I prefear a bit more rough brush sound, so Coated Ambs works great for me!

PS. Ronnin, if you had a swish there, that set up would be just awsome

Beautiful drums with those heads. I only play Fiberskyns. I agree, the mellower sound is just like a real skin head. Fiberskyns are also the most beautiful heads. Check out my drumset below to see my Fiberskyns.

What's wonderful is that I'm not great at tuning but these heads pretty much tuned themselves. My 16x13 now sounds like a low tom which is nice, no more plastic ring sitting on it now. The brush sound can be pretty loud I've noticed too, even though it's a smoother head. The bass heads came with kick patch pad things but I'm not putting them on. They are 'fiberskyn colored' which is nice. I think these and the Ludwig classic heads are the best looking ones for bass drum. When I get around to it I might paint one of those shield logo things on mine.
