I recorded this goove today on my 16'' bass kit today.
We wanted one of our bands songs to be based on a drum groove for once, and I was just wondering
if you guys could help me with the time the song should have

It is a little off, sometimes. And the mic is the kind you buy from a computer store for $5. So...

Please help me!

It`s a 7/4...

I really like those 7er grooves. You played it well...just keep up practicing. I suggest to practice it slowly at first. Often times it is hard to keep a groove constant when playing it slowly. Make it groovy and straight...in many tempi.

What tempo would you like to play??

Thanks for the time signature help, I wasn't really shure...

I was thinking tempo around 165bpm or something.
The guitar playing that kind of 70's wah-wah ''groove'' thing, and the sax playing accents on every 'and'.

OR

I could of course make it slow, groovy, and funky at about 120bpm

The bass playng a soul/slap groove, and the guitar in the background plaing a simple thing,
with accents on 2'and' + 5'and'.
The sax would play in the front with an almost constant solo, during the whole song.?

I've got a cool 7/4 groove that my drum teacher showed me a few months ago. You break it down into a 4 + 3 type thing. You play a RLRRLRLLRLLRLL pattern, then repeat. It's really cool when you add bass drum and hihat. It's too late for me to play right now (parents are asleep), but I will record an example for you tomorrow when I get home if you're interested. Let me know if you want to hear it.

If you wanna create a whole song with your band you should involve some elements which are "important".

You should at least create a theme. You`ll play that theme in the beginning and in the end. Like fence that shows a direction and that delimits. Don`t treat a theme like: ummm, it`s unimportant...let`s finish the theme as fast as possible." Think about playing recognizeable melodies, some cool accents...playing unisono sometimes.

Then you could do soli blablabla...and maybe playing a bridge? But I have no exact idea in what music you and your band wanna play and all that....since you play Punk, Funky things and Jazz.

I don't think I'll be able to record it tonight, I've got a lot of final projects to finish up for school. Hopefully tomomorrow.
