This isn't a question of what cymbals I should buy, this is a should I, or shouldn't I post.
Back story- I'm a self taught pop punk drummer, I'm not great, but I know how to get the job done, and some. Now that I finally have my band together, and we have found our scene I am wanting to improv the sound I get from my overall kit for recording and live sound. Listening to a recording of us, the thing that stuck out like a sore thumb was my XS20 crashes, and B8 hats, because they were so high pitched.
Now my solution, at first I planned on buying a new set of cymbals moderately priced, nothing to expensive, but decent sounding. Then I thought "Well, you want to make an investment? Go big." So I went big and found these.

I know it's a big jump, but I think it will pay off in the end.
Sound like a decent plan?

That price is really something.. Have you tried searching for used cymbals? You could save a bunch of money.

hey, im looking for new cymbals too (since mine are very bad and i dont even have a ride ;) )
is it better to get a nice (like 2xx euro) set first or should i try to get used ones on ebay? im not experienced and wouldn't it be very bad if they didn't "fit"...
what is a good allround (mostly funk and jazz) set?

For your type of music you may want to consider trying out Saluda Mist X's. I just recently tested out some hihats and while they don't suit my needs they'd fit that kind of music perfectly. Nice crisp sound that will cut through the mix

Check out used cymbals. But those cymbals there on musiciansfriend are really good quality. Check ebay too, you can sometimes find amazing deals there.

Get rid of the b8's and keep the xs20's. I love mine. Then again, I've heard good thing's about saluda and dream cymbals. Just go down to the music store and look for deals, and try some stuff out.
Ebay has good deal's to.
cheers.

Yeah, go for the Saludas. The sounds on their website aren't that great; they sound much better in person. And I don't know if they're just lazy or what, but the actual mp3 files still say Mist Brilliant and not the cymbal that you think you're clicking on.
I have a pair of 14" Mist-X hats (as well as a few other Saludas) and they're great. I use them in a black metal band and they'd go well with any sort of punk/hard rock/etc.

i have that same cymbal pack but I didnt like the way it sounded with the music I play. I do think it'd sound good for punk so I say go for it! Check pawn shops first tho to see if you can find some deals there. i've found TONS of great cymbals that havnt cracked yet and still sound great in 5 years. I used one of them constantly =)

I just read this post and here are some things that I forgot to say...
My band isn't pop punk. It's like southern guitars, with "hardcore" vocals, and my punk influenced drumming. So, I guess I'm mixing to a crunk type distortion with these cymbals.
And I looked at the Saluda Site, and the Mist X's are the same/if not more than the A customs I found.

I would never ever buy cymbals that I haven't tried out before. So buying on the Internet is a big "no" for me. Especially with Zildjian - my experience is that each cymbal they make sounds different. Some sound great, others sound like crap - even if it should be the exact same model.
Trying to save money by buying cymbals over the net can be good, but it also can go really really wrong. The only company that builds cymbals that really do sound the same way everytime you buy them is Paiste, but they are pretty expensive.
Do you really have to buy a whole set at once? If not you might want to start with just new Hats or a new Crash.
My advice is: Go to a local drumstore if you can and try out as much as possible. Even if you end up spending a few more bucks it will be worth it because you'll know what you get.

I have to have these cymbals by the end the summer, and I am 17 and unemployed until July 7th...
Crazy horse, thank you, Saludas are back in the running.
