View Full Version : What ride should i buy?
Please help!
I'm buying a new ride in the near future, money is not a problem. I play rock, punk, and metal and death metal. What ride do you think would fit me best?
Im at the moment considuring thease:
Sabian AA rock ride 21"
Sabian AA rock ride 22"
Sabian HHX groove ride 21"
The only think I am absolutely sure of is that i'm not buying anything under 21" and most likely sabian. Please help!:)

The AA Rock series are very nice sounding cymbals, actually some of the best Sabian hats I have ever played on....aside from the Fusion hats that is..yum. Im not a big fan of most Sabian hi hats...Anyway, I would recommend the 21" AA Rock ride, although I've never played on the HHX Groove before. I think the 21" will be good for the types of music you play, its already a pretty heavy cymbal, thats why I recommend the 21", im thinking the 22" will be a little too much ride. It has a very nice ping, as well as a nice bell.

Although this is not on your list, i would consider the 20" or 22" A custom Ping ride. Extremley versitile, and amazing in sound.

The AA Raw Bell Dry Ride 21" is quite popular as well. Not quite as harsh as the Rock rides. The Groove ride is more of a crash/ride. The 21" Signature Universal Ride is fantastic as well. This is a 21" Rock ride with a bicer tone and bell sound really. Sort of in between the HHRBDR and the AA Rock rides. Definately worth looking at.

Hand Hammered Raw Bell Dry Ride. Haha what a mouthful!
To be honest mate the styles you are saying you play id stick with an AA rock ride if your personal favourate size. An AA Rock will perform perfectly in all those loud genres. Im not sure a HHX Groove would be right for death metal where you need want that good strong ping.

I didnt think a 21" HHX groove ride would be good in a metal- setting either, untill I saw Derek Roddy using it, so I guess it cant be that bad...or?

Fair enough man I stand corrected on that one but from watching his vids id personally want abit more definition in my ride (on the bow atleast that ride's bell is great) for that kind of quick playing. Thats personal tho of course its down to you in the end and if you like his ride sound then it could be the one for you. Im just thinking of playing a gig with unmiced cymbals in a metal band id like all the ride I can get!

I think I agree with you, but I haven't heard the Groove ride enough to be sure.

The country I live in is so small that I'm going to have a hard time finding a store that has other cymbals besides paiste, zildjian, sabian and wuhan, but thanks!

No Wuhan rides. Only chinas from them are good. The Zildjian A custom medium is good, as well as the Sabian Paragon. Paiste 2002's are nice as well.

No Wuhan rides.
A few weeks back I got to try out an old Butterfly ride (made by Wuhan), and it was just beautiful. Dry and defined ride sound and a warm, full and trashy crash.
