has anybody tried these sticks? are they any good? what size and wood are they and how do they rank to something like the Los Angles 5a and Manhattan 7a

also bear in mind there main use would be on a practice pad

They are probably 2nd's from Vater sent just to Sam Ash as a cheep rate. Just like the Vic Firth 5A's you get at Guitar Center during the bit Momorial Day sale last week. Everyone goes WOW $0.99 for Vic Firth 5A!!! But it's a 2nd quality stick, still stamped with Vic's name.

nah, the vic sticks that gc sells for a buck during memorial day are the real deal dude. The company just gets a special one time buy on them that allows them to sell them for dirt cheap.
