haha guys/girls! i've just received my beautiful, honestly won on ebay, Ludwig Supraphonic! here are some grooves i played today with the Luddie. unfortunately the quality's crappy as usual, but believe me that "live" the snare sounds and feels just perfect!

IIIIIIIIIIVVVVVVOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Seriously, Ivo for funky president.

I love that beat on "whatanidea". Sickness, Ivo, you are very, very 'ill'.

I believe its a N'awlins Thanngg, Shawty.

Peesh to the funk beast out East.

haha thanks! seems that i'm starting to have a regular group of listeners, wonder if Karl shows up also ;P. as for the whatanidea, it's just stuff i came up with today. just mixed the N'awlins clave stuff on the left hand, and some syncopated thingies, along with the backbeat snare on the right. cool that ya like it! i could write it down for ya somehow if you want to :).

I'm not just saying this to go along with eveyone who loves Supraphonics. But that snare sounds amazing. A seriously perfect sounding drum.
Was the price you payed good?

Man, I love the stuff you come up with! Very funky, indeed. The snare sounds quite good, too. Did you get the 5 x 14 or the 6.5 x 14?

thanks all! as i said, this snare doesn't sound half as good on the recordings as in "real life" :), but cool that you like it anyway. i've spent some time tuning it. as soon as i get some digital camera, i'll post some photos of it.

Okay, here's the "whatanidea" beat, i hope you find it useful :)

the red + is a backbeat on a snare, the * are played with left hand, the O is bass drum

oh and the black + are played (in this particular recording) on a snare drum with snares down, put on a floor tom ;)

it was $350 so i think yeah, it was a pretty good price. especially that there was a cool vintage container along with it, and the snare itself was in top notch condition despite its almost 30 years. (only the logo has a few scratches but it doesn't matter really :))

here are the pics from ebay

just in case the transcription wasn't good enough, here's a small audio transcription of the idea on fruity loops :)

here's one more i found lately. it's a beat from prodigy's funky sh*t. it's maybe not too consistent, but i find it pretty difficult to play, so every single time i try to improve it. whaddya think of this version?

oooh, i like that adaption of 'funky sh*t".
even if it's not note-for-note, it's a great groove man, cheers!
