Hi Guys :(
I was playing earlier and I noticed that my crash had a little crack on the bow. It's tiny, about a 1/2 inch. I was wondering, what should I do, should i drill in the end of crack or just stop using it... It's my 16" A Custom Projection Crash, b.t.w... :( It's not my favorite crash but it was a good crash.

Throw it in the garbage. A new ZBT sounds better than any cracked cymbal.

Not if you mess it up way more and make it an efx. cymbal!
We have an old Zil. Schmitar crash at our school. It is bent, cracked, it misses some pieces, the hole is a major keyhole.
It is so good. The crack makes it a sizzle crash. It is so dry, and dark, it works very well for jazz, as a crash\ride.
I used it for my examn today. Absolutely great!
I still think it would sound way better than the ZBT. Drill it, and maybe rivet it?

Save it for a rainy day. There might be a time when your doing a music video & your have the idea of smashing a cymbal or puting water on in etc... & your wish you kept it ;o)

Yea put some rivets or do some harder labor and make your own O-Zone crash.
You'll probably be happy with whatever you do since cracked stuff is never fun.

Thanks Guys! I'm now going to drill in the end of the crack, sometime this week probably.

I came to the painful conclusion years ago when I was playing harder rock that crash cymbals are disposable items, just like drumsticks & drumheads. Surely not everyone agrees, but I have a huge stack of deceased cymbals in my garage from that part of my career. Some of them sound pretty cool still. Damage ranging from small cracks, to cracks almost all the way around the circumferance to cymbals turned completely inside out.
I've mellowed a bit over the years, now I only break one every year or so, plus I don't buy Zil........s anymore, the Sabians hold up much better for me.

Use a magnifying glass and check for any hairline cracks either before or after the portion you can see or else you may drill ON the crack in reality, and it will just keep going.

Man I've got an old sabian thin 18" crash that has a 1-1/2" X 3/4" crack in it and to be honest it sounds like a really nice trashy china. I love the sound of it. I'm not saying do that with your projection crash of course, but a cracked, gnashed cymbal can sound good and sometimes has its purpose.
the cymbal is probably 20 years old
I use it to fill up some space.

well a customs arnt very durable to begin with (so ive heard)
so i would say fix it up best you can and give it to an aspiring drummer in need of some gear.
or make it into a project and cut away at it and make it into a cup chime. i did that with my a zildjian crash ride. works for some and not others.

In my personal expeience cutting the crack out has a better cahnce of stopping it than drilling.
If you're lucky you could make it last quite a while, I have a cymbal I cracked around June or July last that I still use and its going fine, though I am replacing it soon.
Get it cut or drilled and then start saving to replace it.

did you mean PAY for you drums and cymbals? oh by the way mr.big kit..............why didn't you tell me you busted it? if you want to get rid of it, i will gladly take it off your hands, anything is better then my SOLAR CRASH/RIDE combo 18 inch horrible crash which makes a worse ride waste of time.

I've tried the drill method before and it stopped it for awhile. I then cut it and it never cracked anymore. I drilled the end of the crack then took a saber saw with a metal cutting blade and cut an arc through the end of the crack to not give a sharp 90 degree angle for the sound to stop as it goes around the cymbal. Played that thing for years and it never cracked anymore. There was a little loss of sound but it still worked pretty good.

I would sell it before the crack gets too big and the value gets to low. Then replace it. Simple.

Definately drill, then if necessary cut from the drill hole to the rim of the cymbal to create a half-circle shape from the drill hole to the rim, this should eliminate any further damage
