Finally took the plunge and got an acoustic kit to complement my e-kit. I sold my Gibson Les Paul Standard to fund this. I found myself not touching it at all now that I've fallen in love with drumming. (Still have a telecaster and a Larrivee acoustic... so I'm covered.)

Pretty sweet little kit. Might I suggest placing a nice carpet underneath it and also applying some sort of bafflling on the wall behind it.

There is a carpet underneath, which I have cleaned since I took the pictures.

I'll have to find a way to do some baffling down there for sure. I will have a room built down there eventually, but that is months (many) away.

Any tips as to what to hang on the wall to baffle the noise? (I'll go do a forum search too.)

I have heard someone play this very same kit (but with a Simon Philips signature snare drum and Emperor heads on the toms) last week, they sound awesome! I like your colour too.
What kind of wood are they?

From Yamaha website:

Mahogany/Falkata Shells with Birch or Oak Outer ply
Stage Custom Advantage Nouveau shells are constructed of an outer ply of Birch (gloss finishes) or Oak (matte finishes), six plies of Philippine Mahogany, and an inner ply of Falkata. The shells produce a warm tone with a low fundamental with a good balance of attack and sustain.

Mine is the birch.

I dig it... just a tip: flatten out your cymbals a bit =) You could build a frame , cover it with fabric, and put pillow stuffing or something inside of the frame area. That would be a cheap way to suck up some noise without buying expensive panels.

I'm happy with the sound, except the bass drum, which I'm still tuning. Drum store guy tuned the toms and snares for me and they're great. The bass drum needs more punch and less ringing though. Working on it based on the drum tuning bible and the threads here. Right now I have a small couch pillow inside it (barely touches both batter and resonant head) and I have both heads on pretty loose. It's getting better but it's a work in progress. Going to keep the stock heads for a while and wear them out a bit, then buy new ones.

Yeah I went and played tonight and I do need to flatten those cymbals a bit. Thanks for the tip!

the easiest way to "more punch and less ring" out of the kick is to buy a set of Evans EQ3s for it, tune the batter side a quarter turn tighter than finger tight and tune the reso side a little bit tighter. You won't even need a pillow or anything.

Nice kit my friend. Yamaha makes kits of excellent quality.

With your bass drum, try tuning up the heads a little. The resonant a little higher than the batter, with the batter at a medium-low tension and the resonant medium-high. It works for my bass drum, and I have a Remo Coated Ambassador on there with a small pillow inside.

I would've sold the Telecaster in your situation though ;-). Even though it's next on my list of guitars to buy...

I actually like the MIM telecaster more than the LP. Plus the LP was worth alot more to fund more drum stuff.

I'm almost entirely focussed on the drums now anyway. Guitar has been pushed aside ... and it's mostly the acoustic when I do play the guitar.
