View Full Version : my kit
It's been a little quiet 'round here, so i might as well show you guys this, see what you think. I'm not really a 'Drummers drummer' as most of you lot have figured out over the years, so my kit is pretty simple...

it's a Tama Rockstar, i only need the 4 drums. Like a said, pretty simple. it sounds good - biggish sound, i've used it in a few recordings, and thanks to having a great producer, it sounded great. I have a couple of fun toys...

I have a Boss Hand Clap pedal(not in pic) which i hook up to an old pad - it sounds great, i use it on a few songs. The other thing is called a 'space drum' i LOVE it. it plays subs, and real high notes as well, a lot of fun noise....
That bass drum pedal is my old one, it makes a great practice pedal, bad for gigs. i have a dw9000 which was being repaired at the time...(grrrr).
it's good simple kit.

I bought a 6 piece Rockstar for about $200 on ebay to use as a junker kit for potentially hazardous gigs and ended up loving it. Those bass drums sound great and the tuning range on the toms is suprisingly wide. The only thing I don't like are the long lugs, but other than that I think that's a great kit!

Looks super playable. Specs on the cymbals?
cheers guys,
yeah i often get comments on my kick sound, good ones....
cymbal specs...
Zildjian Custom A crash 18"
Zildjian K Heavy ride 20"
Sabian HHX hi hats 14"
for the stuff i play, i love the heavy ride - i often use it as a crash, (used to feel guilty bout doing that) i just love the deep long sound it has - i'd image a jazz player hating it...my crash is on its way out thinking of getting get a paiste 2002 18" - i want a deep/long crash - what do you guys think?
hats are ok, sound amazing recorded - thanks to a great producer...

Oooh I really like this setup. Is the box on your kick the Space Drum? I love it. I'm curious to hear it. I love stuff like that. I need more weird electronic goodness.

That's pretty much the kit I plan on upgrading to from my beginer kit.
I love your kit, can we hear it?
i don't really have anyrecording of the drums alone and I shouldn't be doing this, as the album hasn't been released yet, so don't tell no one....
recorded this a few months ago, a pop song with my band, the producer is really good i think. It starts with real handclaps and moves into the ones from my pad, they're all played live, it's a fun song to play live......thats me doing the 'talking' singing bits too...
the kick sounds huge in this...makes me laugh, i think we recorded it with 2 mics (one of them was a old speaker) and then during the mix put it through a bass amp....to give it that slight 'growl'
hope you like it.

What happened to your 9000 pedal that it had to be repaired? I'm just curious because they seem pretty solid.
What happened to your 9000 pedal that it had to be repaired? I'm just curious because they seem pretty solid.
1st gig on my 1st tour, the hinge broke, where the pedal meets the bass plate. it just snapped! i was shocked and a little pi**ed off. i mean it cost me a lot of money, and i don't play that hard, no one does. i got it fixed, pretty quickly, it's now better than new - i think it had a fault in it when i got it - i just didn't know how to spot it, cause i hadn't had one before (does this makes sense?). there seemed to be quite a bit of 'give' between the hinge and the bass plate, and a screw under the plate would slowly work it's way lose, (i'd tighten it every few months) - i thought that was normal, but now i have a repaired pedal there is no 'give' it's really firm.
Even though that happened and it shouldn't have, i still think it's a great pedal, but they should have fixed it for free it was only 10 months old.
nevermind....

If my pedal broke after 10 months I would demand a new one!!!!!
Anyways, great kit Nate...I look forward to seeing and hearing it up close next week :D

not my style of seting up the drums, but I dig the colour, and it looks good :)
