Hey guys (or girls).. I’m not sure if anyone remembers but I had asked for advice on getting a 16’’ sabian cymbal and I wanted discernment to chose between aax stage, aax studio and aax plosion.. I was lead to the decision that aax plosion would suit my situation best..which it definitely does.. (I play progressive rock) and now I’m looking for a new (most probably 18’’) crash cymbal.. once again I will note that I live in Trinidad which is in the Caribbean and I don’t have access to stores that have good cymbals to test so I will be ordering online without a sound test..

So far I’m looking at: aax stage crash 18’’ and vault 18’’ crash.. feel free to advise on zildjian or paiste also.. just keep in mind that I will be using it with and want it to compliment my 16’’ sabian aax plosion..

I’ve noticed how helpful people are on this site and I am very grateful
Thanks in advance for your help

I'm not really sure if it will compliment your currect crash, but I seriously recommend Zildjian K custom fast crashes of any size. They can hold their own in louder (progessive rock) type music, but they're truly awesome for recording etc.

Why not get a 18inch aaxplosion? you know what your getting. Just be deeper. I have 18 & 19 aaxplosions (which i said in your last thread) i love to bits. Its a personal thing but i only have 2 main crashes & i have to have the same type of cymbal but different size otherwise it doesnt work for me. 18 on left 19 on right :o)

The 18" stage crash (i have one) is a lovely cymbal.

From the sounds on the sabian website it seems to compliment the 16" aaxplsion very well.

Hey thanks for the help so far guys.. has anyone played the combination of the aax stage crash and aaxplosion? So far i'm leaning towards that..
Hey RUSTE thanks, I do love my axplosion and think that it is perfect but the one i have does not have a good bell and stick hits to the inner body of the cymbal sound, ok.. so i would prefer a different ,perhaps thicker one.. and also i would be to afraid that the two cymbals would sound to much like eachother..

So far i'm leaning towards the aax stage 18'' or the 18'' vault
please advise

Well if you would want to try Paiste you might wanna try a Signature 18" full crash. The soundfiles on their website are pretty accurate.
Otherwise I'd go with the AAX.

Listening on the sabian website the 18" aax stage crash does complement the 16 xplosion well.

This was my thinking as well. If you aren't in a position to try before you buy, this might be the best route to take.

Well, since you don't have access to any stores near you, I would suggest checking out cymbalsonly.com. They have soundfiles of the actual cymbal for sale, which should help you decide which series and find a cymbal that matches well with your other.

I´d either take the aax stage crash or the vault. The stage crash is more similar to the xplosion but the vault has also a great sound. If you ask me I´d take the vault because it just sounds better to me.

I would go for the 18 inch vault I have one and its really great. And by the way how do you like trinidad? I bet theres some nice beaches and stuff there.

cool, a Trini. Do you play in a steel band? If you do, you might need a little more cut than the Vaults. They cut but they are extremely glassy, and if you play with a steel band (like i do) your crash might not always cut over it (like my doesn't sometimes)

hey thanks.. man, this is the most helpful site ever heh.. yeh man i JUST came back from the beach..

hey d.c. where you from.. im glad to know people know about trinidad lots of people ask where is is then after i answer they say where is the caribbean :S.. but nah i don't play in a steel band i play in a progressive rock band called Chaos Room:

But yeh i made my decision.. which i don't think I will possibly regret.. My friend who went to florida for his band to play 7 gigs up there just bought the 18'' aax stage crash (as i asked, decided and wanted) i am positive that it will suit the aaxplosion the way I want and Chris Penne (dillinger escapeplan) has some GREAT sounding cymbals and i recently found out he uses the same stage crash so that makes me more confident again... thanks for all the help... oh and i agree the 18'' vault is beautiful.. but the 18'' stage is what i'm looking for.. heh thanks LOADS!
