Okay, I need help on choosing cymbals. My teacher told me to stay away from brands other than Sabian and Zildjian, but I am strung between the Sabian XS20's and the Zildjian ZHT's.
And yes, I know that ZHT's are sheet. Also, Rock or Performance?
Any comments will be MUCH APPRECIATED!!
Thank you so much.

why would you not choose anything other than sabian or zildjian???theyre your cymbals...its the sound your looking for...not your teacher??

whats your budget??

when i was startin off i bought Paiste 802s....lovely cymbals....but slightly pricey if your startin off..(i got my kit for free, so had the extra cash to spend on cymbals)

the thing is buddy, I don't really have any experience on this type of thing. He was just advising me.
By the way, I assume the 802's have been discontinued because I can't find them anywhere

I am personally a Sabian endorser, and I love their cymbals. But by having a teacher tell you to stay away from 80$ of the cymbal brands on the market, what does that do for your choices?

This document can give you a start on selecting cymbals

To be honest, I think your final decision probably will be a sabian, or other high end brand, because (with Sabian) their availability, quality and customer service are fantastic. But ALWAYS look at everything you can first, before making a decision.

thats fair enough...but just even take a look outside what he told you....i actually have no ideas if the 802s have been discontinued....i reckon they probably have....haha!

I disagree with your teacher, i emplore to explore options outside of Zildjian and Sabian (although they are the only ones i have in my lineup, check my sig)

I have 14+ cymbals. Brands include Zildjian, Sabain, Paiste, Ufip, Meinl, LP, Soultone and Masterwork. Buy any cymbal that sounds good to you. Accept any cymbal that is given to you. Look for deals. I just scored a 17" Zildjian A custom crash for $50 a few days ago. That was a no brainer, being they typically sell used for $150. What a sweet sounding plate.
