I would suggest buying to quality pro level cymabals used. Or check out Saluda cymbals, they go cheap, and supposedly amazing cymbals. Sadly i have never tryed them.

My main hats are some 70's era 15" Paiste 2002, my aux. hats are 14" Sabians. Check out the used market and eBay. Don't limit yourself to "intermediate level", you know how much you can spend, find some cymbals that sound good within' your budget.

I would buy used myself. For all of the complaining about the high price of the top of the line cymbals we usually see on this forum, all of the cymbal makers are making even more of a killing on the cheap stuff!

Check out Paiste Alpha's. The 'Sound Edge' model is quite a combo. For a little more the 'Sound Edge' version of the 2002's are another choice. I have a pair of Sabian Pro Sonix 'X-Celerator' 14" & am surprised at how good those baby's sound. For $120, they are worth checking out even tho they are not 'mid-range'. They sound as good as my Alpha's which cost twice as much. I wish I had found the Sabian's earlier, tho one can never have too many cymbals!

Find a good deal on used pro hats. I found a pair of K Hats fer somewhere around 250 dollars and have seen them for under 175.

I agree with Class A, and Rendezvous -used cymbals are your best bet, the only problem being , there is no factory warranty on them. If you aren't Conan the Barbarian and don't enjoy trashing your investment , I wouldnt worry to much about it;)

In the end I think your better off like many have mentioned going to the used market and finding a nice pair of pro level hats. In the end you'll be much happier with the sound and durability. The big question is what kind of music to you want to or mainly play. Lots of good deals on ebay, you just have to be willing to spend a little time looking and bidding. I've had Zildjian new beats for 25 years and it's a good all around hat!

I've got an alpha heavy ride, and it's loud and rings like a bitch, but i've heard good things about the normal one.......
Gotta love the ping you get from paiste.
