Over the past year, I've been buying from EBay and Cymbals Only and I now have my perfect Jazz Set. It's a silver sparkle Gretsch set. The toms are from the early 70s and the bass drum is a reconditioned "round badge" drum from the 60s. The snare drum is a Ludwig Black Beauty.

Sizes:

* 5.25" x 14" Black Beauty snare (with Remo Fiberskyn Ambassador head)
* 8" x 12" Tom (with Aquarian American Vintage head)
* 12" x 14" Floor Tom (with Aquarian American Vintage head)
* 16" x 20" Bass Drum (with Aquarian American Vintage head)

Cymbals:

* 13" Istanbul Agop Mel Lewis Hi Hats
* 19" Bosphorus Turk Ride w/Rivets
* 21" Bosphorus Masters Ride
* 20" Meinl Byzance China w/Rivets

And that kit must just sound sooo sweet. My drummer bud has both round badge and stopsign badge Gretsch kits. Those are the "great Gretsch sound" there. Nice.

Very nice looking set. And your playing is great. Look great, sound great. Like the cymbal set.

I love those little be bop kits. Yours is awesome. The Ludwig black beauty add class to the kit. Vey Nice!

Simply beautiful.
And you`re happy with those Mel Lewis hats? I`ve chosen some Turks instead of lathed more traditional sounding hats...though I also like the sweet sound!

Have fun!

I'm in love with them! The ONLY thing is that they don't have as loud of a *chick* as I would like. But, it's a small price to pay for the rest of the great sound. I used to use 13" Zildjian Constantinoples and I like the Mel Lewis hats much better.

Top ranked stuff. I would tell you to go rock th free world bu i guess in your case you'll just have to jazz it up.

Oh yes, that was actually the final reason why I got not the traditionals or Mel Lewis...but hey, the overall sound is beautiful, very right.
Also the Mel Lewis 21" Ride is so nice ;-) Did you already check this one out?

take care,

Karl

Beautiful kit! Congrats!

I really dig the cymbal choice! Yummy!
And, the Gretsch kit is just AMAZING! I really love the Silver Sparkle. Is it Stop Sign Badge?

Is it Stop Sign Badge?

The tom/floor-tom are stop sign. The BD is round badge.

Beautiful. Could you post a front pic? I'm trying to put a jazz kit together, myself.

Wow! Great set up! How do you like the Aquarian American Vintage Coated heads? I'm thinking of buying them for my jazz kit.

I love them. They are very bright, which I like. If you want something warmer, try Fiberskyn.

Cool stuff.

Id like to put together a kit devoted to jazz.

Maybe a Ringo kit with a 20" bass drum.....
