I'm looking for a white kick reso, not only for looks, but to dry out sustain. In particular, I was looking towards remo smooth white powerstroke3. Despite its name, does it have a rough coated surface or is it smooth like the black counterpart? Logic would say that a rough coating would shorten sustain, but remo's catalogue says the smooth white version is darker in tone, more focused and more durable. If you'd wonder, remo does not offer a coated white PS3 kick reso without the black rings.

The other option is evans EQ3 coated white reso, which comes with a hole. I wanna test an unvented head first though. Aquarian, attack or other brands are not an option since these are very rare in my area.

Are you sure? Then why does remo claim that it has a more dampening effect than coating?

My Remo catalog shows the Powerstroke3 head to come in both smooth white and coated finishes. Also clear, clear w/clear top dot, coated w/clear top dot, suede, renaissance, fiberskyn3 and ebony finishes. And the web site seems to support this information. http://www.remo.com/portal/products/index.html

Yes but like said, a coated PS3 comes with the double stripes, which I don't want. These stripes are, for some reason, absent on the smooth white PS3.

Only on the resonant version. The Smooth White Powerstroke 3 does have the rings on the batter version that comes with the 2 1/2" Falam Slam

The colored smooth heads, black and white, are a bit darker in tone I believe because they are a bit thicker than the clear versions. They have no texture at all. A coated head would be a good choice. A great option is to just put a felt strip behind it like most guys used to do. If it's a powerstroke head then that little ring behind it does some muffling although not much. Evans heads usually come with a hole though however, there are some that just have dry vents. White drum heads are hard to find for bass drums these days.

They are not thicker at all. Same thickness as their clear counterparts in all weights.
