I just picked up a Sabian 16'' AAX stage crash yesterday. I called Chuck Levins (music store) and asked them for their price so guitar center would match it. As I was talking, the sales rep told me there are many different thicknesses of AAX crashes. Does he mean studio and stage, or are there more varients? In my opinion, the cymbal has a sustain that is too long. Mabye it's just because I'm used to the fast crash it replaced, but I want to be sure that there is nothing else out there before I decide to keep it.

Ok. I traded it in today for a aaxplosion. It sounds pretty nice, and the bell is just great. The darks were too..dark.. and there were no studios, xtremes or metals for me to try.

I play hard rock/metal/trash metal & i use 18 &19 aaxplosions & i love them to bits. I also use 14 aax stage hats 18 aax china & 20 aa metal x ride. You should go to the sabian website & go to the soundcheck page if you havent already. Athough i bought a 18 dark crash from just listening to the website sample i found it was to dark when i got it & sold it straight away. I find the aaxplosions sound deeper than most other crashes ie: 18 aaxplosion sounds like 19's in other aax crash ranges. But i like that...

I've been there, I don't think the sounds sound like the actual cymbal. I like hands on experience.

RUSTE, I know you love your cymbals, but do you hear a strange overtone in your them? I thought mine was perfect, but now I hear this loud annoying humm sound..it sounds like a C. It's deffinately shouldn't be there.. If you listen hard to the sabian page, you can hear it reverberating with the cymbal.

i think i know what you mean by that sound, and it's present in my signature explosion crash. i actually quite like it though, and the crash is great. i'm thinking of getting the bigger sized one as well.

I wanted a new crash to go with my 16" stage crash and tried a stage crash out with other AAXs and thought tne 17" dark crash complemented it perfectly

Sorry i didnt reply i was sunning myself in spain..... I think i know what you mean but thats just the charecter of the cymbal hence xplosion name. Its a different matter when your playing with other instruments as you will not here that. I think when playing lightly (which doesnt happen often) just taping the cymbal with the tip its sounds amazing & them charecteristics you mentioned add to the sound. Im no expert or anything though. I struggle to put into words the sound of things most of the time. Plus i cant spell :o)

Chuck Levins is THE BEST! And to the best of my knowlage, the stage crash is the crash with the shorter sustain outr of the AAX's.

I'm glad to see everyone likes their Sabians.

I actually returned the sabian for a zildjian k custom fast crash, and tonight I bought a Paiste signature reflector. I guess sabian isn't my manufacturer.

Needless to say I am very happy with what I have.
