Im looking for a new Sabian ride that has a bright, piercing bell and great overall sound, i like the HH power bell ride, and the paragon ride as well, but the paragon is a little too pricey.

I mainly play speed metal, and thrash metal, so it will have to be durable.

Any suggestions?

Okay, thanks for listing what you like. If you really dig the Paragon Ride, try a few 22" "Ping" Rides, the Ping is actually a Zildjian model, but Sabian has an equivalent and it may be called the Medium-Heavy Ride or the heavy ride (Sabian smart people help here, please!). The sound should be similiar and the price may be less!

I was looking for a similar sounding ride as you describe-very cutting, low wash, nice ping, sorta sound.

I picked up a used Sabian 21" HH Raw Bell Dry Ride and that did the trick for me. I don't kow if it's a good choice for metal or not, but it does have the qualities you describe. Compared to the Zildjian Ping rides I have played, it is heavier and has a better 'ping' and better bell.

Ed Shaughnessy's Universal ride is something to look into as well.

i have the 21 raw bell dry ride as well, the bell is lovely and cutting and it is a pingy cymbal, its heavy as well and very durable. i hit very hard and have zero problemo with it.

Whether its quite what your looking for i dont know but definitely try one out. along with the aa metal -x range.

I had been using the 21" HH Medium Heavy Ride up un til very recently. It was also the weapon of choice for Virgil Donati for some time.

Its a fairly focused sound with darker, less obvious overtones, but the bell has a nic sound and plenty of volume.

It would work well for your situation, but then so would MANY other Sabian rides!

The HHX Evolution Ride (20") is pretty sweet. Has bright stick definition and a cutting bell.

I almost went for it but i decided on the Legacy instead.

All are pretty similar...
AA Raw Bell Dry Ride
AA Dry Ride
Signature Paragon (really heavy)
Signature Ed Shaughnessy
HH Raw Bell Dry Ride (moderately dark)
HH Leopard Ride (this one is dark like a K Custom Ride)

Zildjian K Custom Rides and K Custom Hybrid rides are great options too.

I am an owner of a Paragon Ride, and it definitely has some serious power, cuts through anything I play, but if you enjoy crashing rides, this may be a little to heavy for your tastes. I really enjoy it but am curious to know where you got your prices from. Mine was a lot less expensive than I was expecting, so make sure you've checked the local shops. I think all the alternatives have been covered pretty well in the previous posts in this thread. Hope I could be of assistance!

I owned the 22" Paragon, and a 20" AA Medium Heavy. Both are well suited for heavier rock, but I found the Paragon to have more subtle "ping" than the AA. That one (the AA) was extremely bright and defined, but conversely, the bell of the Paragon is the best I have ever heard...the AA's was very "clang-y".
Both rides had very little wash and overtones.

Well, i checked out the Meinl MB10 Bell Blast Ride, and i was very pleased with it, even though im not much of Meinl fan. I also gave the MB20 pure metal ride a look, and I was amazed by it, but it is out of my price range.

What do you guys think about the MB10 Bell Blast?

I also have a 22" paragon. If you like the bell on that I highly suggest you stay away from the raw bell symbals. The bell does not cut through like a paragon. Not even close. I think what you are looking for is a big heavy bell.

If you are looking for something similar but cheaper I would try the aax metal ride or the aa rock ride. Those have big honkin bells on em.

You should check out the hhx power ride. It has a very great bell.
