42 strand snare wires

do they make 13" 42 strand wires? i've looked all over and can't find any

Nothing on the Gibraltar website, and the Puresound website lists up to 30 strand for a 13 inch snare.

In the back of the June 2007 DRUM Magazine, there is a review of Dunnetts snare drums, and there is mention that the drums come with 42 strand snare wires..."yes even on the 13 inch drum" to quote the article.

Dunnet has them specially made for his 13" snares. As far as I know, they are not available anywhere (or maybe directly from Dunnett?) I have a 13" Titanium Dunnett snare that came shipped with 42´s. IMO it´s overkill. The 42´s choke the drum way too much so I changed to 20 strands. That´s when the drum really came to life. On a 13" drum the 42´s seem to choke the body of the sound. I was quite shocked at the big difference when I changed to 20´s. The drum sounded great with the 42´s, but now it´s simply out of this world.

That's was my thoughts and also 13" diameter snare have smaller snare bed which can cause problem with larger 42 strands. Maybe Dunnett makes larger beds to accomodate standard 42 strands snare.
