Check out "The Chosen Legacy" by Dimmu Borgir and listen from the third minute. Hellhammer does 290 for 14 seconds, and they play that song live, too!

Maybe you'll critisize me for making a thread out of this, but I'm sure the speed-geeks will enjoy this.

Can't you cut out that section from the song and post it? I don't know about where you are, but here Internet legislation allows this without having to pay rights if the clip is no longer that 30 sec. long.

Yes, I've fully listened to Dimmu's last album and I can say Hellhammer is probably playing a mean double bass in this song! (maybe faster than anyone else - I've been a HH fan since '97). Here we have his fastest double bass work (just like in Ordo Ad Chao and Chimera (Dark Night Of The Soul). Dimmu is not really my cup of tea - Mayhem? Yah, definitely. Love them. HH's surpassed Pete Sandoval in "meaness", as far as speedy double bass goes (quite probably even faster than Tim Waterson's). Cheers. :]

HH is an amazing drummer, dimmu aint really my cup of tea. HH reminds me of John Longstreth ex-drummer of Origin, he was truly an amazing drummer

Nice to see another Norwegian Dimmu drumming fan at the same age as myself xD

And yep, Hellhammer is awesome, but I would have prefered Nicholas.

I dont think its real because i heard you can chop something fast and repeat it over and over again! So until i see it i will believe it...

While it is true that digital editing can make people sound better, this is not the case here. Hellhamer really is that fast. You're talking about a LEGEND in the world of death metal.

I know what you mean though, it's hard to imagine someone playing that fast. When I first met Tim Waterson and he played really fast for me I was speechless.

It's like seeing those guys that can bench press like 600 lbs. It strains belief but it's damn real.

Hellhammer is ace but i agree that Nicholas Barker is an amazing drummer, i think the new band he is in (still in?) Lock-up are crap lol really not good, i didnt really like Dimmu but i think the when Nicholas was in cradle that rocked.

And as i said until i see it i will belive it. Because the fastest single strokes in death black or any metal is kollias. I think waterson will agree.

I can't see why Kollias "must" be the fastest (?). In Sorte Diaboli is a brand new record, so it wouldn't amaze me if some guys aren't updated on who's the fastest. But again, we'll probably never know, anyway.

Another thing is: Blomberg doesn't do things he can't do for real, I'm very very sure about that. Also: Dimmu play that song live, and that's a challenge! If 290 is his limit in holding it consistant whenever ha wants to, then he can probably go minimum 300 'unofficially'.

I heard the song and i highly doubt its single strokes because it sounds just like brett batdorfs 290. Its sounds like a roll!

In what is the fact that it's doubles or singles important?

Because singles are harder to go faster with...

Even though this is not of much importance for me, my guess is that Hellhammer is playing single strokes. But regardless of that, and excuse me if this may seem rude, but your statement is ridiculous in my opinion.

See, I couldn't care less what sticking is applied in any given situation. In my view of things, it's all about the music. So if any given lick, groove or whatnot comes of as cool, groovy, musical then that's fine with me. The technique or sticking won't stop me from appreciating it.

If you have listened to Blomberg's other recordings, you'll know that he does way over 200 and he improves record after record.

Got a link for the song Id like to hear it.
HH is a master at speed so it is possible.
It seems from what Ive read we use similar techniques for high speeds...
it is not the speed that is so difficult its separating the notes at that speed in singles.
Thats why most drummers use doublres after a certain speed...
I did 270 on my dvd and anything faster is just difficult to lock in LOL...................

I'm sorry, but I don't have a link. I tried to load it up, but it wouldn't work. You can always chech out for sound samples on iTunes.

Is it possible to play doubles at 280 on a real bass drum!? Wow! Impressive.
