Try a Paiste PST5 ride. I had one and it was great for the price. The entire PST5 lineup is decent.

A used pro one, plain and simple. Hop on ebay! But if you must have a new one, the B8 Pro isn't half bad. Id definatly aim for a brilliant finish since the traditional ones can sound tinny

EBAY EBAY EBAY EBAY.

seriously. spend a little more and get a pro ride off of ebay. You can get rid of it for almost no loss. Any "starter" ride will lose value, if bought new, instantly.

If you decide to carry on playing, you will have to replace the starter ride anyway. Something like a Sabian AA studio ride or similar would be good as its versatile and relatively cheap.

But if you must go new i agree with gruntersdad that the pst5 is good and has a great bell sound. haven't tried the b8pro's but gotta agree about the brilliant finish.

Not sure what they go for over the pond, but you can get a used Zildjian A Ping ride for less than $130 US on e-bay (they tend to sell for $90-$110 plus shipping). That's a darn versatile ride.

Please let me give you some advice i came across a couple years ago.

When it comes to cymbals, KEEP YOUR STANDARDS WAY HIGH. You never want to end up with a cymbal you dont like or you think is "eh, its alright."

Aim high. It costs more money, having to buy a cymbal, sell it, then buy another. Save up a few extra bucks and buy a better cymbal.

GO USED!!!!!!!!

its worth to buy a good sounding dirty marked up cymbal rather than a clean one that sounds crappy.

DO NOT BUY THE ZXT OR THE XS20 OR THE B8

Hope that makes me heard. Go used or if you have to go with one of those check the PST5.

It really is a good idea to buy used like people here have already said. I really do urge you browse ebay. Since I presume you live in the UK, buying from USA might get expensive with postage and customs fees etc. there are some nice deals going on ebay UK too.

for example:

Byzances are really great cymbals, way better than the xs20s you mentioned.

I love my Sabian Xs20 Rock Ride =D

Sound's pretty good for the price. I've never tried used before, but i've heard good things. Ebay has good deals to. Go down to your local music store and try some rides out. It all depends on what you like on your kit captain!!
