I've been looking at that Pork Pie snare for a while. I'd love to get your opinion on it as an owner.

BTW - Kit looks fantastic! Love the hardware and the Bosphorus' are always a good choice!

mapex589: yes, the cherry finish is much more vibrant out in the sunlight than in my room, so i thought i'd set up outside for the photo shoot

ecvail: thanks for the compliments! the pig lite is a great snare, especially for money. it's plenty loud, and plenty bright. it's got a nice crack, but tuned medium high has some good body behind it. it's not for jazz, but aside from that, it's a pretty versatile snare.

jayp: thanks man. well, sadly enough i don't play jazz but i'm confident that if one did want to play jazz with an axis pedal, he could.

kcdrummer: i LOVE them. especially the pang thang. i've never had a trashy cymbal before... i was missing out. now i'm working on incorporating it into my band's material. the wide ride is amazing as well. at 2477g, it has a beautiful warm wash and warm crash, but has better stick than i thought it would (which is a plus) they're my first two bosphorus purchases, and surely won't be my last.

jon cable: thanks! the axis pedals are great. fantastic. they have a different feel than other pedals i've tried because of the long foot board, so they're not for everyone. but yah... very smooth. the hi hat stand is also super light weight... which is a plus if you're carrying your gear around.

byebyepanda: not a club, it's a catalina maple. i posted this thread right before i had to be at work, so i didn't have time to type up the specs

driver: they mix quite well actually. the wide ride's dark crash is a nice contrast to the brighter giant beat's. the hats are a bit on the warmer side. they fit nicely with the ride, because while the ride has a dark wash and crash as i said earlier, it has a brighter stick that sounds wonderful. also, crashing the pang and the multi together sounds amazing!

Very classy and elegant. I like the mod look of the snare mixed with the "old school" look of the Gretsch's. And the mix of cymbals, very cool. Again, your own unique spin. Cool.

superbatman: i've only played a dw kit in a guitar center, but if you're looking for a kit as good as quality as your dw, you should look at the renowns or usa customs. but if you're looking for a nice sounding kit to gig with or the like, i can definitely vouch for the catalina.

harryconway: thanks! yah, it is an interesting juxtaposition between the pig lite and the classic gretsch kit. i've never thought of it that way.

mind drummer: thanks for the nice comment over at cymbalholic! i really like the ec series. they sound just as good as the coated aquarian studio xs i'm very fond of, and they're also more durable. (i tended to dent my studio x heads quickly). i'd recommend giving them a try!

bonzolead: i understand where you're coming from: the kit was originally a six piece, and only after experimenting with various tom combinations did i finally settle back into the one up one down set up.

Gretsch & Bosphorus, right on man. I think you know I have a Gretsch Renown/Bosphorus Turk setup. I'm back to playing a small setup again as well - 10/14 tom setup with a hi-hat, splash, 20" medium ride, and 19" thin ride (used as a crash) - and I'm loving it. It's like home for me. I also like the coated EC's as well too. I just put an EC1 on my 10 and an EC2 on my 14 and they're wonderful. I tune the resos pretty high so I can get a nice short sustain good for jazz or funk.

Do the Catalina Maples not come with the usual Gretsch tom holder any more? As tricky as it can be to adjust sometimes, I'd miss the flexibility if I didn't have it.

gmrakich: haha. thank you.it seems weird to me also,I played a 5-piece for years and for about the last 10 yrs. i've been playing 4-piece I guess I like the ride a little closer or just the simplicity of it.Oh by the way how do you like those Bosphorus cymbals?

ahh, i see. i definitely like the look of the tom holder you have a lot better than mine. mine looks so bulky and ugly compared to yours haha. i didn't find my tom holder difficult to adjust though. the 'ball and socket' design works fairly well my needs

I'm not sure if I asked you before but could you send me sound sample of you playing each drum separately?

My Catalina Maple (amber finish) sounds better with stock heads than G2s, especially with the 10" tom. Its a wonder. I use the 10, 12, 14 drums. Yet to setup the 16" after a year of owning it. I'm going to have the 14" fixed soon, the bearing edge on top is terrible. I just put the drum upside down and it now sounds so much better.

How does the EC1 sound? You did try the G2s before no? How does it compare?
I think my G2s are duds now. The 12 inch in particular buzzes, the glue seems to have broken between the plies

miggle: unfortunately i don't have anyway to record myself playing. i played my kit with stock heads for about an hour or two before i went out and bought some studio Xs. that's too bad that your bearing edge was defunct. i checked all of mine as soon as my kit came in, and thankfully they were all very nice. the ec1 sounds great. a lot better than the ec2 that was on the high tom. a bit too dead for me. but yah, the ec1 gives the tom a bit more life but has a pretty short sustain. i've never played g2s before, but have you checked the bearing edge on the 12" to make sure that it isn't the cause of the buzzing?

beatsmcgee: yah it is a great snare for the cash. my tension rods used to loosen a bit after rim shots, but no so often anymore. maybe yours will do the same over time
