i have an alpha thats for sale (buy it :D!)
Personally i need cash for a k custom dark ride, so i gotta get rid of some extra stuff i got laying around.
The crash isnt bad, granted its not the best sounding cymbal in the world, it sounds pretty good. and it definitly grows on you.

I was looking at the Alpha crashes and liked them, but I opted for the 2002 16" crash... They were just all around better sounding cymbals.

Paiste New Alphas are semi-professional line cymbals. Generally speaking, it is a good cymbal line for what it's worth. Lost of choices, Paiste made a good move with these in my opinion. One thing though, I only tried a few models - we had them at one point at drum school - but the crashes I tried sounded a bit thin (as in they lack balls, if that makes any sense) Try them out if you can.
Also, there's the usual "instead of getting okay cymbals and upgrading later, why not get great cymbals now?" line. Have you thought about this?
Regards,
Christopher.

I was thinking of getting some 2002 crashes, maybe a RUDE china, and the Alpha Metal Ride. Once again the 2002 line has caught my eye, versatility at its best i hear. Any opinions on 2002 cymbals in general?

I'm sure wild crashes or power crashes would suit your need for volume seeing as they are loud as hell. For more versitility, the Crash 1971 model or the thin crash are great cymbals.
Also I cant imagine how loud the Alpha Metal ride would be because I have a 21" Alpha groove ride that hurts my hears even with Vic Firth Drummers Headphones on.

Alphas are impressive. I play them at a rehearsal studio and always leave pleased with them. While they are a notisable step down from 2002 I find in a loud rock/metal situation the rock Alphas do work well. They cut and alot of the lower end sound is covered by the roaring guitars and you are left with a good cutting cymbal. Sound edges are cool too. I have notised Mr MetalToDeath that your asking alot of questions about Pasite in general and really the best advice I can give is to go on their brilliant website and see for yourself. If a cymbal is made to be loud and cut through, it will tell you. If a ride is pingy with a little wash, it will tell you. Then you can listen to the great soundfiles (which are pretty close to the real sound and also give you more then just 1 sound from each cymbal) and make your own mind up.
hope that helps you out with your choises buying cymbals is hard work!

Driver is right: the soundfiles on the Paiste site are extremely close to the actual sound of the cymbal. I recently bought a 17" 2002 Wild Crash based upon both the Paiste soundfile and an observation that Gruntersdad gave regarding the tonal differences between his 16" and 17" crashes. A particular handicap that I have, (at least here in San Diego,) is that our local Guitar Centre tends to stock only "meat and potatoes" kinds of cymbals; that is,only straight rides and crashes with almost no selection of "exotic" types like "wild rides" or "crunch hats," etc.As to the quality of the Alphas,I have several of them and am totally happy with them. The Splashes are top-notch and the Sound-Edge Hi-Hats are excellent; I have also used the Flat Ride and find it to be better sounding than the Traditional Flat Ride: The Alpha sounds somewhat dark and the Traditional sounds too bright,at least to my ears.I have not bothered with the Alpha crashes because I simply do not care for them; I am too spoiled with my 2002 Crashes. At the end of the day I believe that you might be better off with either the Rude line or the 2002 Wild series for applications like Metal or Punk. The prices at Massmusic.net are cheaper than the prices at Musiciansfriend or Guitar Centre; you just might be able to obtain a good selection of 2002s for the full price of what you would pay for the Alphas at these aforementioned locations. Good luck....
